I've never shot the stuff before but recently got some 1945 AP rounds for the garand.. From what I've read, the key is just to give it a good cleaning afterwards.. Is that about all there is to it? Is the primer the only corrosive element or is it the powder too? Is the brass still useful for reloading? Anything else to keep in mind?
I really hate to do what I am about to do, because it will be very painful for you.

Complete guess, but my guess is that the brass will be berdan primed rather than boxer primed. So, you probably won't want to screw with trying to reload it.

The primer is the only corrosive part of the round. And if it is US military production or US made it is unlikely to be Berdan primed.
But if you know it is corrosive, it was probably made overseas and could very well be Berdan primed.
Give it a good cleaning, as soon as possible after firing. Don't let it sit a couple of days!

Give it a good cleaning, as soon as possible after firing. Don't let it sit a couple of days! Head stamp on all that I've checked is TW45 which, I believe, is Twin Cities Arsenal? Does that help determine whether its berdan primed? Is there any way to tell for sure? Did a Google search & found out why berdan isn't recommended for reloading.. Thanks for all the replies..

Do you really want to reload brass from 1945? .30-06 brass of recent vintage can be had for reasonable money without much effort.

If it is US military, which yours seems to be, it will not be Berdan primed.
And I have reloaded a LOT of WWII vintage .45acp and .30-06 brass with no problems. If it is stored properly there should be no ill effects on the brass.

I load my own. $1.36 a round for a Garand is a deal breaker for me. Ain't gonna do it.

I have some greek 30-06, I only shoot it in my 1903s.
I clean the rifle, then I run a Windex patch.
I do not clean the gas cylinder every time I shoot them, so I only use non corrosive.
