This has been a brutal winter as we had over 10 feet of snow accumulated in just 4 weeks. On April 29th, 28 days after fishing season started I headed to a lake which is always good in early spring. Little did I know what I would face....needless to say when I did eventually get to the lake it still had 14 inches of ice on it (I forgot my ice fishing gear) and it finally just opened up last Sunday, May 10th. You guys are so lucky there as I am sure you have been mowing lawns for at least 3 months. Here a few snapshots I took....

This is the main road which was just plowed the week before....

This is a small pond which thawed only because it is in the open field....

This is the road to the lake I thought would be open....

The lake, which I planned to fish is at the end of the snow in the small opening in the middle of the picture...

Cheers and be safe

Wow never saw snow linger that long when I was a guide in Montana except in the high country.

Once again, I'm very grateful I live in Texas.

It was snowing last Saturday at my house in NM. Fortunately the ground was too warm to accumulate.

I want to be warm again.

Would it be accurate to say that you really don't have much of a spring fishing season?

Sure they do. It involves ice augers and tip-ups.

Well lets see. I was out from 8 till noon on the golf course and it was cloudy and over cast and by the 3rd hole I was drenched in sweat. Not hot just humid and sticky.

I would give anything to be up in that cold climate. I love it cold!

I was hunting the Navajo Reservation last weekend and six inches of snow fell in the mountain. Last Saturday, it snowed, hailed rained and then the wind blew me down in less than two hours. Yesterday morning, it was 28 degrees north of Window Rock where we were hunting.
Adios,
Gary
