I've got a complete DPMS LR-308 lower ready to SBR. The only 2 reasons I'd like to do this is 1., I have a crap-ton of 308 ammo and 2., I've always loved the 308 round. Right now I'm thinking 12.5" on barrel length and will be ran suppressed 99.9% of the time. I won't be shooting long range (under 500 for sure).

If anyone has one, I have a few questions.

What length/manufacturer barrel do you have?

Does anyone know of a 11"-11.5" handguard?

I've been thinking hard about this, but don't know if I can justify another tax stamp just to lost 2.5" of barrel down from the 16". If I were to do it I was thinking of a 10.5", but that really renders the round pretty useless. Would probably get better performance out of a 300BLK at that point, and the 300BLK would be smaller and lighter. Of course 300 ammo is much more expensive than 308 ammo.

From what I've found from looking online for components.

CMMG MK3 RKM11 11" handguard - LINK

CMMG MK3 12.5" barrel - LINK it is out of stock now, but I've gotten 2 stock notifications so they come in stock pretty frequently.

The CMMG MK3 is all LR308 compatible and the rail would need to be used with a DPMS/LR308 high profile upper.

But for the price I've been throwing around buying one of the new Palmetto State Armory PA10's.
Complete Lower - LINK $239
Complete Upper - LINK $449
Total - $688 for entire gun then just have the barrel chopped down for $50

Only thing I don't like about the PA10 is the parts are different than other LR308. Some parts are compatible, but some parts PSA changed for some reason.

Thank you for the info KRoyal! Sounds like the MK3 12.5" would be even cheaper than the other route I was going to take. I was looking at the Ranier Arms 12.5" 308 barrel ($435).

Thanks again!

As for the PA10, I've heard and read some not so good things/reviews about the components and accuracy. I think I'd be a little scared to spend almost $700 and hope it shoots.

No problem, I shoot a MK3 CBR right now with the CMMG 16" barrel and it shoots fine, I wouldn't be scared to try out the 12.5" barrel. Especially for the price point. The MK3 rail is very easy to install as well all you need is a 1" spanner wrench, I think they might even include one now, not sure. I also looked at the Rainier Arms barrel, but for a 12.5" SBR that you probably won't shoot over 200 yards $435 is a tough pill to swallow.

I've already read bad things about the PA10 after doing some research. Hopefully they will get their crap together and come out with a Gen2 that is completely LR308 compatible, not sure why companies do this. Yes, it makes people have to buy the proprietary parts from you only so you make money, but it just causes problems especially on guns like the AR which are just big boy tinker toys.

After reading about all this crap I was just thinking of SBR'ing my MK3 lower I have now and building a 12.5" upper. Makes more sense anyway LOL.

Yeah, I remember you selling your POF to swap over to the CMMG.

Yessir, just SBR'ing your current lower would be the easiest and cheapest way!

Which suppressor are you planning on running that is rated for that length of barrel?

Mine is a YHM Phantom 30 QD. It is rated all the way up to 300RUM and can be ran on all none magnum calibers down to 10.5" barrels. Can run on 8" 300BLK barrel.

Mine is the original AAC 762SD. It's not one of the new light weight model ones. Mine is only rated for 308 and under. Works on my 8.5" 300 Blk out SBR perfectly as well as my DD MK18.

so a 308 sbr would be a fireball...check barrel length requirements if you are running supressed

I have thought about doing it multiple times but do not know what it would get me over a 300, 223, or 6.8 sbr....

Make sure to get a barrel with enough twist...i have seen some 1 in 12s floating around. i would go with 1 in 10 for sbr
