I am looking at a used Gator Trax/Mud Buddy set up right now. It is a 2005 17' Gator Trax with a 31 HP Vanguard Mud Buddy. Assuming the motor is in excellent condition mechanically and the boat is in good condition (minor dings and scratches) what would y'all consider a fair price?

200 hrs on motor and it had a poling platform and trolling motor, besides that the boat looked pretty basic.

That motor is an odd duck, I would stick with the Vanguard 35, so many more options and bolt ons for them. Good boat though.
Keep an eye out on MMT, there are a lot of good deals out there lately. My buddy found a 2013 Gatortrax 1750 with a 35 Mudbuddy HD sport with 20 hours he picked up for $9500 a couple of weeks ago.

Just got to watch for them, there will be more up for sale soon because Mudbuddy will be selling their new EFI HD Sport frame with reverse starting June 1, same belt driven motor now with reverse.

John Paul I would get as big a motor as you can that is still factory stock. 200 hours is quite a few hours in my book. Yes there is still a lot of life but unless you're stealing that boat, I would just let her be. I don't wish to start a drum beating war here, I am simply not a Mud Buddy fan. That is my opinion after owning one. I have owned several mud motors and the only one I would consider buying again is a Go Devil. They are built like a tank and very simply to work on.

Of all the shopping I did last year, never saw a 31 hp mud buddy rig for sale. But for a 35 hp with that many hours I was going to say $8.5k. Mo's buddy found a really good deal, so there are good deals to be had, now is a good time to find them, right before duck season not such a good time, from a supply/demand perspective.

JP,
To answer your original question, $5,500-6,000 would be my guess for that rig.
Couple of to consider buying a rig that age:
For the boat, most of the older Gatortrax boats did not have exterior splash rails running down the side of the boat to keep the splash from entering the boat, also may not have light bar holes in the front deck for a light bar, other than that should be fine.

The motor on the other hand is a big difference from a 2005 model and one built after 2009, the frame could be different in 2005. If its a LA special it may not have trim, if it does it is not a Mercury trim unit, which would cost $1200 to change out. The old trim units suck, I know, I have one, the newer ones are tons better, really no comparison.

200 hours is not a big deal if it has been maintained. Guys in La have over 1,000 hours on some of these motors.

If you want a Godevil rig, PM me, the buddy of mine that just bought the Mudbuddy rig will be selling his 2012 model Godevil 16x54, 35hp Godevil surface drive rig with about 140 hours on it soon.

I think the 2005 had the splash guard, but you definitely want that. It can be a wet ride with the splash guard, can't imagine how bad it would be wo one.

The 2005 model for sale in LaSportsman that he is probably looking at does not have one.

Heck of a combination. I have driven the 1654. It will get on step in a puddle of spit.

Mo, good guess on that rig price...that is what fair market value is for that in decent shape $5500-$6K assuming it is a 44" bottomed hull.. Maybe worth another few hundred if 50". Also, Doesn't matter the age of hull with regards to spray rails down the sides. Unless it is a huntdeck model ( which come standard with them) you either paid for them or not as they ARE NOT a standard option on non-huntdeck models.

I figure the boat and trail alone is worth $5 to $6k, especially if the wiring and tires are good. That's what I had in my boat before I put the motor on.
