It's something I'll never understand, Four of the 8 bird dogs I've owned have been what I call thunder dogs. All reacted differently. Cracker feels safe in her kennel. She survived a storm last night. This tree was next to her kennel. She feels safe in her kennel, yet she will break and try to get out of her fenced yard. What has been your experience in this area? Just lost the TV signal. Here it comes again.

Thunder dog? I have one I call Thunder Chaser. It's a blue heeler. It's my son's dog. The dog runs full speed around the yard barking at the thunder and biting at the rain. I think he is one brick shy a full load. Never seen anything like it.

I've got a mutt that's fixing to hyperventilate next to me right now. She better be careful she's getting old.

More rain on the way. I have to kennel Crcker, before she starts for the fence.

Got a new GSP pup a couple months ago. I always worry about gun breaking a young dog. Well I'm not going to worry about this one. She didn't flinch a whisker during the storms and even wanted outside in the middle of all the thunder and lighting.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

I've began to think its genetics. I have two dogs that are out of a female that's scared of thunder. One of them is terrified during storms, the other gets a little scared, but not to the extent of the first one. My other dog (not out of dogs effected by thunder)could careless if it storms. She has learned the toads hiding places flood, and it drives them out into the open during heavy storms. She will be outside toad hunting during a thunderstorm, if I don't make her come in.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Way back when, my first retriever that would actually retrieve was scared to death of thunder. During a hailstorm once, I noticed the corrugated roofing coming off an outbuilding where we had some antiques stored. the building formed one side of the pen she was kenneled in. I immediately grabbed a hammer and nails and, standing on the top of her dog house, I tacked the roofing back down. This was despite wind, lightning, thunder, and pounding hail, as well as a terrified dog that somehow managed to climb my back, and hold on during the job. The noise of the hail alone had me spooked. Not to mention the accompanying lightning and thunder!
