Has anyone seen this? It attaches to your smart phone. I'm thinking it would be a good monocular type device to use with an IR scope. Scan with thermal, then light them up with IR and ATN X sight.

There is an XR model that supposedly doubles the range and is focusable for $299.

Well, a hot guy in the snow is going to show up really well. That isn't a very good field test of the unit. The FLIR One turned out to be pretty pathetic for field use. I doubt the SEEK will be any better. Notice the lack of detail in the image.

For $300, you can give it a try, but be wary you don't snap off the unit from the USB port.

Yes, there are a couple of reviews on youtube. I guess I'll keep checking reviews, there was another review on a "thermal app" from a reviewer in New Zealand or Australia. It looked really good, showed rabbits at 50yds and deer to 150yds, but over $1000 IIRC.

Finally came across a youtube video of the Seek Thermal XR model (IIRC)

Several deer at 100yds.

I've been using mine for about six months, works great in a stand on hogs at night out 100 yards.

I spend my money on dogs, hunting, racing, women, and whiskey - the rest I waste.

Skypup, thanks for the input. That's the Seek Thermal, not the XR, is that correct. The XR supposedly doubles the effective range, and is focusable.

thanks,
CC

I have not tried the XR, mine is the original Seek.

The software updates have been really nice, you can use it for detection from a stand out 100 yards, not for ID, but plenty fine for detection.

If you want a real good thermal device to attached to your phone, look at the Therm-App, it works great as a spotting scope:

http://therm-app.com/

This works really well for the price and I was able to get my for the $1K when they first came out, now they are $1,600

Look at the Therm-App vs Seek Video of your self.

Yes, I actually came across the therm APP first, then saw the price. It is hands down much better, but I'd put $1600 in a thermal scope plus what I spent on the ATN X Sight. I'm looking for something now $2-300 that can be used as a hand held for scanning, instead of panning the horizon with a firearm....

Even if the xr is only half of what they say it is it MAY be a good investment for tracking wounded animals should the need come up. I would be sold on it if I could see it on a blood trail. Heck Ive wasted ALOT more money than that on other crap and still wont pull the trigger on one of these yet. Just seem too good to be true for thermal knowing what they usually cost.
