This looks like a great scope for an AR, but $799? Why is it so expensive? I can't find a deal on it anywhere, even Ebay.

Exposed turrets matching the reticle, FFP, and the words Vortex and Viper PST makes it that price. If people wouldn't pay it, they'd not price it so high.

Buy used if you can find one. Send it in to Vortex and they will check it and make sure it is good to go.
Vortex Warranty is transferable and literally covers everything.

Adjustable for parallax. Bumps the price up about $200.00 over a comparable model (say the 2.5 x 10 x 44 ILL) that has fixed parallax.
Another thing that keeps Vortex prices 'high' (if they can be said to be high priced), is the lifetime/transferable no fault warranty that is attracting a lot of folks. I prefer to think of it as 'sucking them in', but it is a marketing strategy that seems to be working for Vortex at present.
Once folks FINALLY figure out that they have already paid the 'replacement cost' in the retail price (cost to the manufacturer to completely replace the item), then the 'Vortex' warranty might not look to be as good a 'deal' as first thought.
I mean think about it. The only way a company could realistically offer a 'no fault' lifetime warranty (including replacement of the item...if needed), is to either build such a good product that the warranty is rarely used (either repair or replacement), OR...include the replacement cost in the retail price.. right off the bat.
Personally, I would rather they offered a 'limited' lifetime warranty and then put more money into making the scope better!
I know this post is going to raise objections from certain Vortex lovers...but if my Vortex is any example of the rest...then I can only say this: It has nice 'features'...and generally looks to be well built, BUT the glass is as best...just 'so-so'.
Those who think the glass is "great, fantastic, good as (fill in the blank scope), either haven't looked through something that actually has good glass...or (because they now own one)...are reluctant to honestly evaluate it.
Each person must decide for themselves, but I would highly recommend finding a brick and mortar dealer...and spend some time looking through any optic you might be interested in. Compare to other brands and then decide.
Spartans ask not...how many, but where!

Yes, I've got a Leupold VX3 and a Vortex PST. I'll take the Vortex every time. Other manufacturers had to step up to the plate and start offering lifetime warranties as well. I got a lot of other scopes that I wish had come with a "No BS" warranty. I've yet to look through a scope at a brick and mortar store that didn't look good. Only to get it home, try it at dusk or dawn, and find out the truth. If you build a quality product, you can back it with that type of warranty. That being said quality is never cheap....
God Bless
