I just made a bone head move, feel so dumb......

Working up some .223 loads to try tomorrow morning. First 5rds were w/Benchmark, second batch of 5rds w/WC844.

Loaded the benchmark 5rds first then loaded the 5rds with WC844. Finishing up and stupid me dumped about a 1/3 of a Lee perfect powder measure with WC844 into the Benchmark bottle!!! Benchmark bottle is 1/2 full. Did I just waste all that Benchmark powder!?

I did see they have about the same burn rate, #81 and #82 on the burn chart. (WC844 is very near H335)

I don't have any advise about using it but at least it wasn't a full 8 lbs.

Maybe just have to call that lesson learned.

Do they measure the same? Same pellet size and all? Being that they burn the same, I think it may be salvageable. These days it's worth a try at least.

The WC844 is smaller. I shook the bottle well and poured some out. I noticed that the WC844 settled at the bottom of the bottle. The WC844 is smaller and finer.

I measured out 23.1gr and noticed 10 or so "pieces" of WC844 mixed in it. Not much at all

Just my opinion, get rid of it. Half a $30 bottle of powder is not worth risking damage to firearms, eyeballs, life and limb. Again, just my opinion.

At least blow something up with it. Make a few toys to throw in the campfire. Small ballon full would be cool to have around for flash. You could be a medicine man.

The "correct" answer is to not use it. But.... Honestly, if you mix it up well, you can still use it. The powder differences and burn rate are not a large enough swing to cause a problem. Use the data for the faster burning powder (Benchmark), and use that data. I would not use this mixture as my precision ammo, but it will still work and shoot.

I made the mistake a while back of dumping some H4831 in a H1000 1# bottle. Not a lot of 4831, but a little into A 3/4 full H1000. I will not hesitate to use this on some basic 270 Win loads with a 150 grain bullet for my personal ammo. I'll load up some test rounds starting low, and see how it does.

I know several shooters who "mix" certain powders for their ammo with a lot more difference in burn rate and it does fine.

I probably would too, but only after mixing thoroughly and carefully working up the load to less-than-max.

The giant ammo manufacturers mix powders regularly to achieve desired performance parameters.

I'll keep it around and use it probably. I shook the bottle very well and the WC844 is completely separated at the bottom. It's easy to tell the powders apart, Benchmark is light brown/golden color and WC844 is dark grey/black.
