Mike aka Erathkid, and Pitchfork are out here this weekend to get an Axis and anything else that comes along.

Hog traps are set!

Tonight, dove poppers (aka jalapenos stuffed with gream cheese and wrapped in a dove breast and then bacon) alongside grilled zuccinni and baked beans.

Breakfast will be eggs with sausage and onions and hash browns.

Lunch, Omas jalapeno sausages wrapped in tortilals.

Tomorrow, dinner is ribeyes and baked beans.

Beer all around!

Does not get better than this.

Indoctrinating my son well;)

The weather is nothing like it was expected. 90 degrees and sunny as heck atm.

Having a heck of a good time hanging out with Mike and Mark, as long as Mike does not take off with my damn glasses...lol

Hoping they get another Axis tonight.

Let me start out by thanking Russ for his generous offer to have Erath Kid and I visit his wonderful place between Rocksprings and Del Rio.

We really lucked out and had nice weather traveling to our destination. The wild flowers and cactus were in full bloom. I always think of this part of Texas as being all rock and no soil. Not the case at all when you get out and start hiking and spot and stalk hunting. The abundant rains have turned this part of Texas into something special. The plant life and diversity is outstanding.

The variety of game is incredible. When I hunted this area 30 years ago there were no exotics to be found unless you were hunting a high fenced place. Well that has changed for the better. You can have a small place now in the right location low fenced and have a really special place to hunt year round. Russ has turned this place into the word special. I can't thank him enough for sharing it with us. We had the goal of putting some Axis meat in the freezer, and we were able to accomplish that the first evening we arrived harvesting a nice fat doe. food

Russ is one of the best cooks I've had the pleasure of spending time with. He grilled dove breasts for us waiting on the table when we arrived back at the cabin from the first evening hunt. The best I've ever had, and I've tried many recipes. We awoke to coffee and a snack and off we went. When we returned late morning Russ had the breakfast tacos cooking, and they were fantastic. Enjoyed the afternoon hunt watching whitetail and a very mature Auodad that we thought was coming into the feeder but changed direction on us and disappeared as fast as he appeared. We came back to camp to have steaks waiting for us compliments of the Chef (Russ). Some of the best steaks I've ever eaten.

We hunted the last morning starting at the feeder and then moving on to spot and stalk. Found a couple Auodad that we harvested to help with managing the herd. We headed out late morning after warnings of possible tornados approaching. We lucked out and missed the bad weather coming back home.

Nothing better then making new friends and spending time with THF members like Russ. I can't thank you enough Russ!!!

Oh wow.. I totally did not understand you had found and gotten TO those Aoudad. I thought they were lost. You guys could have stayed longer to get them, I just needed to leave.

Sorry for that. I am sure you would have liked to have taken those heads home.

The way it sounded, it sounded like they were down in a ravine you could not get to.

You'll have to come back out and shoot more wink

Glad you guys had fun!

I know ol Nathan and I sure did.

Russ

That was a blast. Right after we shot the two Aoudad, the weather changed from warm and muggy to cool, almost cold, and windy. I looked above us and the dark sky was boiling and rotating. I thought we escaped this stuff. Tornaders are following me wherever I go. Luckily no damage was done. We had to leave quickly though. Thanks again, Russ. What a beautiful place you've got. Can't wait to do it again up
