Any ideas or successful attempts to keep coons from a tripod protein feeder? I've seen everything from loose PVC around the legs to spikes around the tube mouth. Any of these or other ideas work?

As long as they are not jumping from a nearby tree but vasoline or grease on the legs. Vasoline is cleaner.

Go buy some carpet tack strips and mount them on the legs.

I use 4" PVC around the legs on my protein and regular feeders. Have not had an issue since. The carpet strips just give them a foot hold.

PVC pipe is working for me. Make it thick enough that they can't get their mitts around it.

Carpet strips don't work, I tried making my own shark teeth, there was blood all over them and still coons hanging from them

Are you talking about access to the spinning plate or access to the corn on the ground?
My feeder has a cage protecting the spinning plate. On ground, you need to get rid of them. Or they will call in more and more friends.

Duke Dog Proof coon traps will solve the problem, anything else is a bandaid temporary fix for the problem.

No one had a gun in our hands and we just watched it go. One guy threw his beer can at it.. just in really good shape and also hopefully flip the switch a little faster on my wife.

That's pretty wicked looking Charlie. They'd have to be some hungry fellers to hang from that.

how did you put those screws in from the inside? pre-drill holes and a little short stubby screw driver?

The screws may have been installed in the strips prior to the strips being put on the tubes..

Those are deck screws just run up from the inside with a long extension on the drill-driver, into the lumber strips. No pre-drilling, the screws get into the strip pretty easy. I see I didn't mention it, those strips are available at Lowes/Home Depot in the deck section. They use them to splice two pieces of wood together. MUCH cheaper than the Shark Teeth you see sold, or whatever they're called.
