I got to Sisterdale on Saturday morning to 7 Sisters Cabins at 10:00 - more on that later . I met with Cody at 3:30 for the afternoon hunt . Cody was a dang good guide and did all he could to accomadate an old guy like me . He was one heck of a nice guy and did everything he said he would do .
We hunted a pop up on a field over looking a big coastal field boardering the Guadalupe . We had alot of deer come out but no big bucks .So we were to meet up at 5:45 the next morning .
We got in a 8' tower blind over looking a feeder at 100 yards next to the river . When the feeder went off about 5 minutes later you could here the does "talking" to each other on the way in . They came in an then a very nice buck came in and my heart started pumping. Then Cody said " your buck is coming in -get ready . Then this toad of a buck came and he was towering over all the rest of the deer . He was not the one I orginally wanted but I knew this was the one I had to have .
I put him in the cross hairs of my 270 and when he cleared I let it rip . I looked at Cody and he said "you missed him "!! I sat there for what seemed like forever and then told him there was no way I missed that buck . We went to the feeder and found 2 chunks of lung and the party started .
We waited a bit and went into the thick brush and there he was 40 yards out .
As I said he was not the one I figured on but the buck had 33 1/2 " length BUT he had over 6" bases with awesome mass . The buck was aged at 9 years old had we wighed him at 300 # !
I could not ask God for a better buck and nicer people like Diane and Cody to work with . I would suggest them to anyone - anytime . Thanks again guys .
I do want to recomend if you stay down there to do yourself a favor and stay at 7 Sisters Cabins . It is centrally located to your hunting and a great place for the family to stay while you hunt . It is on a working ranch with Alpacas , donkeys , horses, and chickens for the kids to play with , they are totaly tame . The cabins had everything you need including a beautiful deck overlooking the hills and a awesome and big patio with fire place .
This was truly a trip of a life time .
