Fairly new to bow hunting, so please forgive me if I ask or say the wrong thing. I've shot and landed the shots on 2 pigs. The first time I had no clue and was nervous I shot a 300 lb give or take broadside. Looked for 3hrs for him never found him. No blood trail. Both times I've specifically heard the arrow make impact. The second one I shot was coming straight at me at about 20 yrds. Again no blood trail. Both times they ran off squeeling. A friend of mine said gut shoot em another guy said hit em in the neck so what and where do u guys think?

I shoot them low behind the shoulder, we don't have huge pigs on our place biggest around 200 or so, and I've never had a problem with the shoulder plate stopping an arrow. The reason I shoot the low is because a pigs vitals are lower in the chest cavity and also blood pours out so it easier tracking. Also make sure your setup is appropriate for taking a pig i.e. Enough kinetic energy and a sharp reliable broad head. I shoot bloodsport impact hunters that are 11.2 gpi with an outsert that's another 50 gr and 125 gr slick trick magnums out of a 70# 28" helim, the furthest I've had to track a pig was 50 yards or so.

Behind the shoulder. If I can quartering away.

I shoot a 100 grain fixed blade.

If your not finding hogs and not finding any blood I would suggest more range time. If your hearing and not seeing the arrow impact that might be a problem.

Man hogs are some tuff dudes. Sometimes you can 10 ring em and they run out of sight, especially the real big ones. Sows fall pretty quick because of the pass through. The big bores protection behind the shoulders seals up most of your blood trail. Kinda like rubber. If you want to slow them down for a second shot try to hit the leg in the shoulder area. Behind the shoulder works too, but they will run strong busting brush and your arrow. I like a close shot so I can aim high on the shoulder and paralyze them. They wont go anywhere. Good luck. theyre known for running off with your high dollar tackle.

Recently got a gym membership, strange folks! I like to show up the roid zombies with my full motion curls with the 55lb. bells. Not their cheater short stroked light weights. It's holarious.

Buy a rifle and shoot them in the ear.

They won't run away squealing.

Effective but I don't think this is the answer he is seeking.

I like to shoot them low at the elbow in the shoulder. Like a rifle aim for the off side.

I have gutted many pigs and have looked at the heavy plate of fat that is in the front shoulder/chest area. When bow hunting a larger pig I have always wondered if a little further back and avoid that area. Maybe more of a liver shot would be better?
Small pigs I just hit them square in the chest/shoulder and then go pick them up.

Yeah. All the pigs I've had shots at are a variety of sizes. I'd prefer a little one but sometimes the big ones give me a shot. I'm on foot usually too stalking em or waiting and have to relocate when they show up so the situation always changes

Small pigs are easy with a bow, but larger ones can be difficult. I have yet to find a hog I have poked with an arrow that was over 180lbs. They just have so much fat that they seal up like they have slim in them. Bullet to the ear hole or neck does the trick for me on big hogs.

My success has come with rage hypodermics, low behind front shoulder quartering away or broadside shots. I think most people put it too high and far back on shoulder. The vitals of the pig are much lower than you would think, and the kill zone is much smaller than a deer. In my experience even with both lungs and the heart destroyed a pig can still run well over a hundred yards, but with that damage they leave a red carpet a blind man could follow. I was also worried about penetrating the "armor" plate on boars with a mechanical, but found that putting it in the right spot will overcome this, just might not get the pass through but still an extreme amount of damage and heck of a blood trail.

Good diagram. I've always told people you can't hit them too low. And I always line up right on there front leg.

Behind the shoulder. A little far back or gut shot will also work. They can not handle a gut shot as well as most animals. A buddy of mine shot one about 170 was a gut shot and ran 20 yards. I shot one about the same weight a little far back but not a gut shot he ran about 50 yards.

This pig was shot right behind the shoulder and ran about 50-yards. A GOOD, SHARP broadhead is what you need.

This one was shot with a 170-grain mechanical right behind the shoulder.

Straight down through the spine if you're high enough. Their legs will still twitch, but they'll be doing donuts on the ground

If you are good enough shot. Shot one from 12 feet up. I guess it was just about an inch or two off and I watched about $40 running off in about a 250 pound boar. Tracked him for about half a mile before he crossed the fence.

I agree not much room for error, but there'll be no doubt IF you hit the spine.

Hit the lungs... if facing quartered to you put it at the point of the shoulder down toward the armpit.. heart shots on hogs get um in seconds..
