Anybody know how the hunting out around Quanah is? We've hunted in Coleman for the last 15 years and after losing our lease we've decided it's time for a change so we're headed north. We've got the chance to get on 500 acres with only two of us hunting it. North of Quanah about a mile from 287. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure someone will chime in. Driven through that country many times. Get on google earth and check it out.

Very good area if you have cover.

Had a lease in that area for years. Can be very good hunting. The key is your location in respect to the river bottoms and water. If you are on Groesbeck Creek, it should be good. Or if you have Red River frontage on the property it should be very good. If it's just 500 aces of mesquite pasture.... then I wouldn't expect much unless you do major improvements like food plots.

Looks like a lot of wheat fields surrounded by some "breaks" country. I wouldn't expect to see large numbers but possibly good ones. Good luck.

If you have water and diverse cover you will do very well if the land hasn't been overhunted.

We are off FM 680, north of 287 by about 18 miles. Our north border is the Red River. I saw some big deer there a few weeks ago, we just got on so I don't know how the hunting will be. It's a very unique piece of property. Lots of rolling hills and flats by the river. Hoping its a good spot for many years to come. I've seen the deer killed from this place, and have known the hunters for a long time, they are very nice bucks killed every year. Last years winner was a big 12.

If your far enough north to be on the river, you have some real good country. If your south of Quanah in the thicker stuff, you have some real good country. It all depends on your expectations where your at. You will see deer, but how many and how good I am not sure. 2 dudes on 500 acres at the right price is worth a shot though.

How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

Im with BigPig, just got on out there too. The terrain is pretty nice and having hunted out there once before during the rut, I saw a lot of deer and shot a decent 12 point. Looking forward to this upcoming season. I wouldnt hesitate getting on a lease in this area.

Great area generally. A lot depends on the hunting pressure around you or past hunting pressure. Big deer are killed in that area all of the time.
