I want to cut down the 26" HB on my M70 and have it threaded for suppressor use. Should I stop at 20", or go to 18", or go even shorter? Thoughts?

If you will always use the can then I say 18-20.

I run a 16" suppressed. Like it much more than my 20" POF I had before it.

Don't forget to check the barrel length rating on your suppressor before you cut.

My Savage 11 VT came with a 24" barrel. Why are the shorter barrels better? Stiffer? Is that true even with the varmint barrel models?

Hang a 26 oz. suppressor on the end of a 24" or 26" barrel and it will be very picky in powder charge. Hang that suppressor on the same contour 18" or 20" and it will widen the powder charge node. It will also lose velocity, thus the balancing act.
