I stumbled across some Remington Premier Ultra Core-Lokt 115gr at Academy that is usually 34.99, marked down to 29.99, and now on clearance for $20.98. Being a Core-Lokt, and bonded at that, doesn't this sound like a great deer/pig bullet out to normal 6.8 ranges? Has anybody shot this from an AR platform, and what is your opinion?

If you don't currently handload, I'd suggest you start. I can reload 6.8 for a fraction of that.

I have seen that ammo up there as well.

The bullet is a fine bullet but the load I question. When I did my research on the 6.8 there were tons of people saying to stay away from the Remington loads because they were underpowered. There were so many people saying it that I figured that it had to be more than just internet chatter so I have stayed away from all Remington loads in the 6.8. Now in all fairness that was about 3+ years ago that I was seeing that kind of talk so it could very well be different now.

While that is likely true, as yet this isn't a gun I'm going to likely shoot enough to justify cranking out reloads. Which is why I asked about the load above. If you have any wisdom to share about that load or other OTC loads I'm all ears.

I'd snap up a few boxes at that price, it's rated at 2700fps, does not sound under powered.

I'd hunt it to 200y on hogs without worry.

I'll chrono it when I get a chance and see what it does out of a 16" barrel, but I agree it sounded pretty stout and a bonded CoreLokt ought to be bad medicine to 200.

I am interested in hearing how well it shoots. I shot one of my 6.8s yesterday and tried several rounds to see what it liked (Hornady 110 gr VMAX, Hornady 120 gr SST, Rem 115 FMJ, Fed 115 gr Fusion, and Silver State Armory 115 gr OTM). Of the 3 6.8s I have, 2 like the Hornady 120 SST and 1 the 110 Vmax the best. That said, this one shot the Rem 115 FMJ very well and I would not hesitate to try their Core-Lokt and should be great if it shoots well.

Note: I realize my error in using ".243" rather than ".277" for my group calculations.
