Okay,

Now the Ford dealership I use.. super nice folks.. but I have a Ford F-150, 2013, and it has like.. 29k miles on it.

I have had to take it in two times now for a warped rotor., both in the past year.

The last time I took it (before yesterday....it is AT the dealership).. they tried to tell me the bumper was causing it.

I said:

A - You guys installed it when I bought the truck.

B - The #1 most popular truck in Texas with the #1 most popular brand bumper and you telling me they are not out of business because they are warping rotors?

They told me they did not think the bumper was the issue this time, but driving habits can cause a problem. I am, again,

1 - I do not drive crazy. I use my ranger off road.

2 - This never was an issue with the 2009 Ford I had and it had the exact same bumper.

They are telling me how to "change my driving habits" and I am, again, like...um.. how would you know what my habits are like and why is this not a known issue?

Any tips?

Russ

They just don't want to fix anything... I would recommend taking it Truck City in Buda. Had had a few of my trucks in there for repairs and maintenance and have never had any issues.

I hear ya.. trying to keep it all under warranty.. heh. Wish the guy in Buda could do warranty work! wink

If it drops out of warranty and they give me grief, I will take it there and have them figure it out and then fight Ford.

That is a Ford Dealership. Truck City Ford, they are owned by Leif Johnson. Even though they are a Leif Johnson dealership, they are totally different than the North location because at the Buda location, all they really cater to are guys with trucks. The only cars on the lot are the few next door at their used lot.

Mine warps rotors pretty bad, no replacement bumpers, just hard on the brakes. Will be putting new ones on soon. Is Ford replacing the rotors under warranty? It's really not a hard job, if you can change a tire you are half way to replacing the rotors, only 2 more bolts to go.

They keep turning them. I am assuming they will replace them as well, if under warranty. I do not mind doing them myself, but I do not trust them to work on them if I do the replacing... they SAY they will.. but they also claim "my driving habits" are what cause it...

Do you pull a trailer? Does the trailer have its own brakes? Do the trailer brakes work?

Once you warp them turning them will fix it but it is very common for them to warp again. I wont turn a warped rotor, just replace it.

Yes. Yes. Depends o the trailer.

Mine will be getting turned next week, hoping to get a few more miles out of them. If I replace the rotors I will have to replace the pads too, not wanting to replace the pads as they still look good and have good life left in them.

After that, I will replace with quality slotted and drilled rotors, something to help keep the heat down.

If you need to replace the pads when putting on new rotors you need to prelace them when turning rotors too...

I was told that drilled rotors aren't as good as slotted rotors in a towing application, because they were more prone to cracking at high heat. Like with anything, though, enough research will point you in any direction you want to go. I put a set of powerslot rotors and EBC yellowstuff truck pads on my old supercrew and it made a big difference. As in, probably the biggest performance difference of any modification I've ever made to a vehicle. It was night and day.

I ran EBC brakes, green pads I think, I might as well have been on ice. They were on my Superduty, worst pads I've ever used. They quit and were replaced after 13,000 miles. Completely ate up with chunks missing from the center of the pads

If you warp new rotors under normal driving conditions then there is something wrong or your name is ricky bobby.

70mph on a 2 lane road, tractor pulled out in front of me taking up both lanes. I stood on the brakes, had a heck of a time keeping it on the road. I was fixing to be called the Duke Boy's if I had to take the ditch

so they tell you you and or your bumper warped your rotors and to fix the problem they shaved the rotors reducing material allowing them to heat up and warp even quicker.

rocket scientist.

had a vehicle come in the shop one day boss says drive it has a vibration, long time friend an customer of his. i did and didnt feel anything. boss says no its a highway speed issue. took it on highway a bit above speed limit, felt nothing. went back to shop told the owner man i dont feel it why dont you take me for a ride and show me what you are referring to, he agrees. end up on back roads 80mph taking corners hard and hard abrupbt braking. yep felt it. get back to shop explain the issue and the recommendations to the customer. pull boss aside and explain to him his friend is a moron that needs to learn how to drive.
