Anyone have any experience with the Savage B-Mag? The 17 wsm is sparking my interest and I'm in the market for a varmint rifle. I heard the newer target models with SS barrels are more accuracy than the models first released.

I would love to get one and put my Sparrow suppressor on it when it comes in.

Haven't heard much since the original series was released and the accuracy was trailing the 17HMR significantly.

Looks to me like one of those guns you may have to resell for around 30% of it's original price in 10 years when the cartridge never really catches on. But who knows...I'm not an expert on these things.

I agree, that could happen. I don't know if the caliber will catch on or phase out. I was leaning toward the 17 hmr because it is well established but it's hard to ignore the ballistics of the 17 wsm.

I friend bought one to try and was very disappointed with the stock on the Savage. They sent a replacement that I believe was an improvement but still lacking.

Look at a .17hornet no comparison between it and the wsm.
We shoot a CZ in 17hornet and it is very impressive. Went through the same thing with being intrigued with the B Mag. I was able to spend a day shooting one and was sadly disappointed, kept looking around and chose the hornet, granted it's more expensive to shoot than the wsm but for me it was a much better choice.

I bought the first model out, did not like the bolt, stock, it did shoot very good, I have the Winchester 1885,is a blast to shoot, ammo is a little easier to come by now. if I hadn't bought the Winchester, I would get the B mag in the heavy barrel model.

Yeah the heavy barrel model looks great. Ruger just announced they are making a 77/17 in the 17 wsm caliber. Also, Hornady is starting production on 17 wsm ammo which is another good sign.

Part of the reason I want it is to suppress it with the Silenceroco Sparrow. I think it would be an awesome combination, might have to look around for a heavy barrel laminated stock version

Idk what size varmints your going after... but the new semi auto .17hmr is pretty sweet...

Sales of b-mags at our store have been slow but steady... the ones we went out have had great range reports, tack drivers. People supposedly got some bad ones early on but i think that was something other than the gun...

I'm wondering about the A17 in .17HMR, to me it looks really interesting.

I've got a HMR & a WSM. The HMR is a tack driver of course. I mounted a new scope on the WSM, have plenty of ammo now but still haven't got it to the range. When the WSM's first came out I went and looked at one, didn't like it. Bolt was very stiff & fore stock was way too flexible for my liking, so I passed on it. I picked another one up a few months ago and felt much better to me, they made improvements to it apparently. Bolt was smoother & stock was not as flexible so I bought it this time. Need to get my butt to the range and sight it in.

Of course, right after I bought mine I saw they are now offering the heavy SS barrel.

I just want an all around small game/varmint rifle; squirrels, rabbits, armadillos, ground hogs, crows, and whatever else that might be getting into my garden.

I just like that the 17 wsm can reach out to 200 yards and I have heard the SS versions have some great accuracy at 200 yards.

The new semi auto 17 hmr is pretty awesome, if I decide to get a 17 hmr I will probably buy that.

For now at least I am leaning toward the 17 wsm.
