Just watched Greg Ritz on "Huntmasters" chase them for two weeks. Pack-in hunt glassing and climbing in the back country the whole time. Rugged country and a tough hunt. Not a big fan of the hunting shows but the man gave it his all. Clean miss on a huge ram on the 10th day and he went home empty handed. My heart ached for him.

Still a great show and a great hunt. Props to him, his guides, and his crew for some beautiful camera work. I recommend the show if you can catch it this week.

Good to hear that there is a good show out there worth watching. So many of them are all talk and then fake drama as they pretend to be surprised that the pet deer showed up in the pen they are hunting

I am not a huge fan of Ritz from what I have seen. Lots of over-dramatization and "Look at me!" in his shows. (Hence the name "Huntmasters"). But there was no faking this. He put in a great effort and gave it all he had. Lee Lakosky did the same on a show last year. Out in the rough country for 23 days in Baja Mexico before he finally killed a nice ram - with his bow. He was wiped, both physically and mentally. You gotta admire that kind of determination. I especially admired that he never picked up a rifle, though he could have on several occasions.

It was a good show, most shows will not air without a harvest either so more power to him.
That's as realistic as it gets and shows that it is hunting and not killing. Too many people now
a days think it always happens like it does on TV.

He is a little over dramatic, but I like his shows for the most part. I echo the comments that its nice to see a show that doesn't always succeed in the quest, but the quest is what really matters isn't it?

I can truly say I don't think I would have the mental power to go bow only when there was a firearm within reach. Props to him.

Me neither. I only take a rifle for sheep. Took my moose with a bow, but was fully prepared to go back during rifle season if I was unsuccessful. I do not think I would have the mental or physical capacity to stay out in the desert for 23 days straight. The strain builds day by day in a way that cannot be explained unless you have experienced it.

A buddy gets to do/guide a hunt like that every year. 21 mile hike through rock crevices into the dessert which is an all day thing. Then praying the pools of water to purify for drinking water are there when he gets there and prepped for a 21 day stay with iffy weather. A kid that had gone to help scout a few times decided to do that hunt solo when his lucky "......self" drew the tag and it was a year when the pools were dry. Definite trip to his sisters' clinic for IVs when he came out to grab the guide to go back.

Dang. Sounds like the Utah red desert. Tough deal.

At least Lakosky got his ram. IDK what Ritz (or somebody) paid for that Tiburon Island hunt, but word is they go for over 200 grand. That is one expensive miss.

It's the largest island in the Gulf of California. 464 square miles. It also has some of the largest desert sheep in the world.

I saw a YouTube video where some guy paid 100 grand for a Sonoran hunt in Mexico. Missed 3 rams clean - one at just over 100 yards. When his 10 day hunt was up, he asked the outfitter could he just pay for another 10 day hunt and keep hunting. Little Mexican guide piped up and said "You savee you money. You no can climb and no can shoot."

Laughed my butt off. grin
