Posted this in another forum but I don't know that anyone will chime in from there so I figured I would try here! Here are the specs: I shoot a TC Encore 7mm-08 that currently has a Leupold VX1 3-9x50. I am on a MLD 2 property and routinely have to take upwards of 20-30 deer not including exotics. I use Nosler Trophy Grade 140gr. My budget is $500 with a little wiggle room. I ROUTINELY shoot out to 200-300 yards with half of my shots being 224-235 yards last year. A couple of 400 yard shots and a couple of 100 yard shots. Until this year I have taken all my deer with my TC Encore .270 using a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x42 BDC and I do like the spot on program, I wouldn't be comfortable making longer shots without it. SO, I would like some suggestions on what to change this Leupold out for.
Fire away!

Bushnell Elite 4-16x40 with DAO crosshair, if you want. (DAO has crosshairs for various ranges.) It's about $360 at opticsplanet.

Sounds like a fine suggestion. I like the 4-16 power range. As for a replacement for that Nikon Spot On app, download the iStrelok app for the iPhone or iPad. It'll give you the BDC info for just about any scope, including Russian military. It's also a good app to use to review various reticles to decide what you like.

Well, you did say $500 was your max, and there's nothing wrong with that scope. I am a bit surprised that the Vortex, Zeiss, Leupold fanboys haven't given an opinion. Personally, I'd go for another Leupold 4.5-14x40 with the VH reticle, but I think that's outside your spend range. I've had a Bushnell or two, and never had a complaint.

The Leupold Vx-2 line compares with the Bushnell Elites, price wise. If you step up to the Vx-3, it is outside your price range. I've had 4 Bushnells Elites so far and really like them.

Swfa has the leupold vx3 3.5x10x40 scope, with the custom dial system listed at $484 brand new. Send your ballistic info into leupold and they will send you the custom turret.
