Just got a Winchester O/U and after two rounds of skeet this morning in thinking I should look into getting a better recoil pad put on. Do they make a difference like they claim? And is there a certain one that's best? Online it shows the air tech to be the best one they have. Thanks for any advice.

I put a decelerated on my30-06 when I replaced the stock. Made it a joy to shoot.

I use limbsaver and it's great. They say the decelerator will last longer with similar performance. I'll stick with limbsaver.

I have a limbsaver heading my way and if it isnt in my mailbox right now it will be there Monday so I will give you a report in a day or 2 on how that Limbsaver works on my 30-06. My shoulder was practically torn off after 3 shots on my current hard rubber butt pad. I am really hoping the Limbsaver will work as others say it has.

Get a brake installed if the recoil is that aggressive.

I had a pachymar slip on decelerator on my .270 when it was in the original stock. I bet it reduced felt recoil by 30%. Now that gun weighs north of 10lbs, so its not an issue anymore.

My only experience with a Limbsaver was on a Tikka T3 270 SS/syn that weighed as I recall about 6lb's 4oz's bare nekkid. So, + a Burris FF II 3x9x40 scope and a mag full of ammo, the All Up on it was about 7 1/2 lbs...and after getting a handfull of heart stents & blood thinner 'scrips, this 270 Lite gave me the most "Plavix" (aka almost instant black & green) bruise's I ever had with the hard rubber factory butt pad. Got a Limbsaver and the gun became lots more tolerable. But I found a T3 Hunter Grade 6.5Swede at 6lb's 10oz bare nekkid and put the 270 on the back burner. With the Swede I could shoot the low chamber pressure 6.5x55 without a Past Pad in nuthin but a t-shirt for 50-60 rnds per load ladder session with ZERO bruising with the same weight scope...or with a 20-30 rnd's of 300WMg M70 Classic SS/Tupperware & max'd out 180gr'ers or a 9.3x62 American - with a Decelerator on both of them & the Past Pad.
Just remember to store any gun with a Limbsaver in a muzzle DOWN position as they will collapse the toe of the pad over time when stored muzzle up....I also don't like for any left over cleaner/ lubricants to dribble out of the receiver and onto the stock.
My only real gritch about the Limbsaver is that they will "melt" & become sticky if you get Shooters Choice bore cleaner on them, at least mine did. I've gotten all kinds of bore cleaner all over on every gun I've ever owned over the eyars...but the SC I'm using now "melted" the Limbsaver's edges and took the finish off the Swede's Hunter Grade stock where it had dribbled back out of the receiver onto the tang area of the stock's wrist while it was in the cleaning cradle.
With that in mind, the T3 260 HG I bought this Winter will get a better stock finish before I start using it much. FWIW the same bottle of SC bore cleaner has not affected my M70 Fwt's finish, or the CZ 550 American's finish. Just Sayin'

ron I would have never thought about storing it muzzle down good idea, I'm gonna start calling around to see who can put one on for me, so far the only place I called kinda acted like I shouldn't add one because it would hurt the resale value, but thats not something I'm worried about.

If you want a Limbsaver, buy the Ready Fit unit that takes 5 minutes to swap out your factory pad using a flat edge screwdriver and a dab of vaseline so you don't tear either pad going off and on. Put the muzzle down on the floor, steady the gun with your knees, use both thumbs to spread the entry slit for the screw, and proceed like you knew what came naturally... only with the SCREW DRIVER  Ron

Just got back from shooting the Limbsaver on my 30-06 for the first time and it was like night and day compared to the original butt-stock.
I shot aprox 25 rounds today and I do not feel a thing on my shoulder. The gun still kicks like a mule since it is an 06 but the Limbsaver really absorbs the blow.
It was huge sigh of relief for me because I was thinking I would have to sell this gun because of the kick but now it is perfect!
Cant wait to go back and shoot it again!

Yes, the limbsaver recoil pads are worth it. The pachmayer decelerated pad also works. I have noticed that the limbsaver "reacts" with the carpet of my gun safe and sticks. Not that big of a deal.

I don't use Shooter's Choice but I also had some type of chemical melt a Limbsaver pad. Be careful with cleaning and lubricants around these pads.
