Like most everyone else, I'm looking for an AR scope to use "for every thing" I'm thinking a 1X-6X, 1X-7X, so I can use it with both eyes on 1X for really close , then, run it to higher power for precision shots to 300 yards at maybe a 10" plate. Is there a difference in 1X vs. 1.5X for the two eye, close in shooting? "trying" to stay around $1000, but have NO problem spending less

...about 50% Sorry, just could not help myself. I have tried the 1.5 and 1.25 and prefer the 1X if were ever to be used for a tactical situation.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

BTW Buzzsaw, you are welcome to borrow and try my SWFA SS HD 1-6x24. It's in a picitiny mount so easy to move from rifle to rifle. We live fairly close to each other...PM me if interested.

True 1x is definitely faster inside of say 25 yards.
For a 3 gun or tactical I run 1-4/5/6
For hunting I run a 1.5-6x42 S&B on my 6.8 as the low performance is better and I have no problem getting on a running pig at 30 yards. Having said that, I like good 1-X because they are smaller and lighter but have a hard time giving up the low light performance.
Really it's about intended use..

If it's running away from you, then 1.5x. If it's running toward you, then 1x.

If it's running away from you, then 1.5x. If it's running toward you, then 1x. Well put sir! I would also say 1x is much better if you are moving.. Which of course you should be doing in a bad situation.

It's virtually impossible to get a true 1x on a magnified optic that goes up to 4-7x on the high end. Most, if not all, that are listed as 1-4, 1-5, etc, are going to actually be 1.15x-1.25x on the low end and not a true 1x...
That being said, I love my Leupold VXR 1.25-4x on my CZ527...

Yes, it was very important to me to get a true 1x scope on my AR for close in shots. I run the Burris XTR 1-4 scope with BDC reticle. It works great. We have taken it out to 800 yards on man size targets. Inside of 600 yards with my 68 grain BTHP load, I can hit most targets with it. I took 4 friends to the gun range and told them they would all be banging the IPSC steel plate at 500 yards with this AR on 4x, and no one believed me. We made hits at 300 and 400, and I had each one of them on with repeated hits at 500 yards no problem. They were floored. Once you know how to use it, a simple 1-4 is plenty.
