Has anyone ever offered, hunted, or heard of going prices for a large rare black whitetail buck, also known as a melanistic deer! This one is not only a rare black whitetail but he is also a stud of a buck. I have game cam pics but I am mostly wondering what a deer like this would go for if sold for a hunt. There are several on the ranch but this one is the biggest. I know people may be saying oh don't shoot it but he is probably getting to his prime and the disappearing stage of his life so I think this season is the season to take him down. As I mentioned there are others coming up behind him. Please let me know what I'm looking at here thanks.

I'm not an expert, but like anything else, it's not the rarity, but how much people will pay for the rarity. It's possible that there's someone out there that would pay a lot, but my gut feel is that 10% to 15% is about the limit for the novelty factor.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Gotta love the free market.
It's all about finding the right buyer. You could get a lot of money if you drag that bait in front of the right fish.
Personally I'd pay at least twice the going rate for a buck like that. The only thing going against you is the fact they are so rare, most folks don't even know they exist.
All you need to do to get a premium, is shop it around. Good luck!

There are quite a few of them down near San Marcus. A few ranches have a good number of them. About double going rate is probably about tops I would think. 2500-3000 neighborhood. Just have to find the right person. I would not even attempt to book a hunt though until next season.

Quick search on Google found several that big and bigger. Main frame 8, 9 and 10 points.

I have a friend in San Marcos that shot one. There must be a bunch of them in that area.

There's a fool born everyday. Personally, I wouldn't give a dime more than going rate for any whitetail if that much.

My guess is you won't ever shoot one. Most people in Texas know there's an area with an abnormally high ratio of melanism in and around hays county. However, melanism is in fact, the rarest of color variations in WT deer (rarer than albino and piebald). So much so that people outside Texas many times don't even know they exist. So, am I a fool for placing a premium on rarity? Maybe, but I'm one happy fool. Also, a moderator thumbs upping that type of name calling. You sure send some mixed messages mr Gilbert.

People pay to hunt what they like and want. While it might be a big slick 8, a big 6 , a freaky 300 class buck. We all have our thing. Me included. There are plenty of folks that will pay to hunt a less than common variation of an species. Yes -charge a fair premium and you will have no trouble getting a line of people to hunt. Good luck with it and post some more pics.
And yes I agree with therancher comments as well, we can all be happy fools.

Yeah I think that area is known for them. Just about every taxidermist I have been to in the San Marcos to New Braunsfels area has had some come in at one time or another and they all say from the nearby area. That is one of the largest frames I have seen in a long time on a WT of that color. I know a place in Guadalupe County that has some as well. Both HF and LF. But nothing I have seen on the HF or LF there has been that big.

However this is the rarest whitetail in the world and a big one at that and there are alot of people who would love to check this deer in at the taxidermists. So the point of this thread is not to talk about how rare they are because I already know the answer, but to talk about what would a deer like this go for $$$ wise if he is still hanging around this october. BTW this is this past seasons, picture let's hope he grows even more this year.

KeithTT, I think you have your answer the, the buck will bring anywhere from a 50% to 100% premium. Get a picture of him in late August and offer him up.
