All you Vortex Cult members, tell me what you know about this new scope, it's very intriguing

Im curious as well. Like the price. Just wondering if the reticle is too minimal? Would be nice to find one to lay hands on to look through. I am just about to commit to the PST 1-4, but I could be swayed lol

The Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 is back ordered until June. I bought one in January from Camera Land NY when they first were announced. Also bought the new SS14X24IR SWFA SS 1-4x24 Tactical 30mm in Dec and am told it should arrive soon. Eager to get my hands on these to give them a try.

You just can't help but be negative can you? I've got a "cheap Vortex from the Philippines" I've used to put a 180 gr 7mm on a piece of steel a mile a way...repeatedly in west Texas wind.

As much as you bitch why don't you either start your own optics company, apply for a job with an optic company, or send e-mails or hand written letters to them with constructive respectful criticism?

One other option is to realize that nothing in life is perfect, especially not rifle scopes. Learn to improvise, overcome, and adapt.

I did a tracking test on a $2k Bushnell last week. A scope they sent me for free to review. I had a tenth Mil error at at 4.0, 6.0, and 8.0. Big frekin deal, no way am I going to call it a chit scope. One little detail to note, adjust for and move on.

No doubt that either scope (Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 and SS14X24IR SWFA SS 1-4x24 Tactical) will not be top tier but I kinda enjoy trying different things knowing that, if I don't like them, I can sell them and get most of my money back. For an AR type platform I have tried the following:

- Burris 1-4x24 MTAC 30mm Rifle Scope, $400, very good overall scope with very nice glass but the dots on the reticle are far too large for small targets. Good for man sized targets which is what it was designed for. Sold this one.
- Burris 1.5-6x42 MTAC 30mm Rifle Scope, $400, I wanted a bit more magnification but the reticle dot size is too large for small targets. Good for man sized targets which is what it was designed for. Sold this one.
- Leupold 1.25-4x20 VX-R Hog 30mm Riflescope, $500, great optic and finer subtensions but did not like the large post at the bottom which obscures long range targets. I also prefer 1X at the lower end but not a big deal. Sold this one.
- Vortex 1-4x24 Viper PST 30mm Rifle Scope, $475, this is the capped version as I don't feel any need to twist dials on a 4X scope. I like the glass and reticle on this one and is one of my favorites...it's a keeper.
- Millett 1-4 x 24, $225, nice scope for the price with decent glass but no subtensions. Better glass than the $200 Bushnell below. I have kept this one for a low end AR.
- Bushnell 1-4x24 AR Optics 30mm Rifle Scope, $200, this is FFP and has a great reticle with fine subtensions for holds at multiple ranges. I like this scope overall but do not like the exposed turrets and the glass/image is the poorest of all the ones I have tried. I will probably keep it on another low end AR.
- SWFA SS HD 1-6x24 Tactical 30mm Riflescope, $1000, this one is by far the best one I own and have tried. I really like the 1-6 power range, glass is very good and the reticle has fine subtensions for more precise targeting of smaller targets.

I hope some of this is helpful and look forward to trying the new Vortex Strike Eagle and the SS 1-4.

And I had a Viper 1-4 that would move impact vertically and kept me out of the top 10% at the Rocky Mountain 3 Gun World Shoot last August. When you drop $1k on a match (entry fee, travel), you expect your $450 piece of equipment will perform. I sent it to Vortex and they said everything was fine. I tried it again, and it did the same thing. I now have the Burris MTAC and couldn't be happier.

Not to hijack, but is there a review in the near future?
