Anyone know anyone that raises jagdterriers, uses jagsterriers, or is familiar with them. I know that they are used quite a bit for hogs, but I am interested in blood trailing. I would like to visit with people about them. Thanks.

I know lots of folks with Jagds, including myself. They are very versatile dogs and can be great blood trackers. They will hunt anything you train them on.

They have extremely high hunt drive and are very gritty dogs with great noses. I'll have to say that if you plan on ONLY using the jagd for blood trailing, find another breed. Teckels and Beagles make great blood trackers.

Many folks find that a jagd will get bored with blood tracking and trash on LIVE critters. Jagds need the excitement and want to engage their game.

Have a friend near Hamliton that runs Jagds in hogs. I've been around them just long enough to see that they are very good trackers and extreme hunters. Leashed blood tracking would probably be one way to keep them on target.

I agree with DirtyDave, jagds seem to have too much energy to just follow blood. My experience is that for a dog to be a really good blood trailer, they have to learn patience. The jagds that I have hunted with did not exhibit a lot of that quality.
They do make pretty fair hog dogs with a ton of heart and grit for their size. While they have good noses, I don't think that they compare with a hound but then not much does.
