I work at a facility on Eagle Mountain Lake where we have 1600 acres. Its high fenced, except for the lake front of coarse. For the last ten years we have had mountain lion sightings. Before you all come down on me like a ton of bricks, let me say i have absolutly not seen anything that would support the presence of a big cat, and i hunt the property. To me if there where a big cat we would be seeing alot of deer carcasses, fawn survival would be non existent, and at the very least i would find one print. Others have taken pictures of prints that although they are large prints, clearly show nail marks like a large dog. Most of the sightings have been made by non hunters. I tried to talk sence to them all, but one came back with a whopper of a story, and the rest beleive it. He said he called the GW and asked about mountain lions in this area, and he told him there where actually two. One was a female with cubs and the other is a black one with a red collar on it so the GW can keep up with its movements. I know all this is BS, but what are the odds of a mountain lion around Eagle Mountain Lake? Skinner

Well, your question will be best answered by a High Fence expert. Perhaps upon his return from hunting HF our resident expert BMD can shed light on the situation.

Don't shoot that black one with red collar...if you look close there is a tag on it that says "Skippy"....that's my cat damnit..
Seriously, there's no reason there couldn't be a cat in the vacinity. Mountain lions have a range of several hundred miles so it isn't like they are only in one place all the time.
How do you do hunting there? I don't know if they are even still in business as I don't frequent them anymore but when I first lived in the metroplex in the early 90's Barber Boats and Guns used to have 2 big bucks mounted together life size with horns locked just as they were found by a bass fisherman on Eagle Mountain Lake.

Yah we get alot of "bass fishermen" prowling our shoreline during the season. One year the GW watched one put his rod down and pick up a rifle, shoot a buck off us, and watched where he went and nailed him at his house. I have never stated that there is no possible way a big cat could be here, but there is no physical evidence of it period. Now all of a sudden somebody came to work and said they saw the black one with the red collar in a creek bed down the road, i mean its getting to be like UFO sightings at frickin Roswel around here. One guy even claims he had something sneak up behind him in the dark, and when he spun around with his flashlight to see what it was all he saw where two big orange eyes, and after it hissed at him it ran off. As much predator hunting that takes place on the property, somebody would have called one in by now. I will say there is a Feline Society north of the lake where they house abandoned lions, tigers, etc. That fact alone is the only reason i wont completly dismiss the whole thing. I will say its possible, but extremly unlikely. I will have to have one in my binos or in my scope to beleive. Skinner

The odds of there being a Mountain Lion roaming around Eagle Mountain Lake, while maybe not that high, are not completely out of the question.
As for there being a black one with a red collar so the GW can monitor it, well, NACIH.

I agree totally. No way that cat keeps the red collar on...he's lost it by now and in the wind....no way the game warden can track him.

One thing for sure, the tracks with "claws" aren't from a mountain lion. Cat claws are retracted when they are walking.
As for the collar thing I think who ever put the collar on would know the cat was there.

its quite possible for one to come through the area. ive hunted all my life in one area and have never seen one. i know hey come through and there have even been a few killed over several years. its kinda funny how the sightings go way up during deer season. lotta things out there around dusk that can make ur mind believe u saw one plus looking through the bottom of a jim bean whiskey bottle adds some diminsion of destrotion as well.!!

Its possible. But i live nearby and i doubt it. I think there is a much better chance the Famous TTHA star Skinner will hook me up with a hunting opportunity around the lake! lol

Lot more people in the woods too....thats why sightings would go up during deer season.....
the man at the top of the mountain didn't fall up it

This is much like the bear thread. There are critters like this around, and we have current reports in Collin County too, around Allen/Plano, of one of these felines. Predators are adaptable, and there is a plethora of doggies and kitties for these wild animals to survive off of, as the neighborhoods move into their natural neighborhoods.

that black one with the collar on it is the TPWD decoy of a black panther just like bucky the deer, his name is montel the moutian lion and he is remote controlled. He is the pied piper of black mountain lions, they must be doing a census over there.

so what you saying skinner is that you are chasing (girls) during work and we all know that it will cause you nothing but trouble. might be fun but in the end is it worth it. hey true story - i use to work for a prominate family that lived off of camp bowie and roaring springs and i got a phone call saying a 6 point buck was tangle up in the fence. i did not believed it until i got there and saw it myself. called the locals and gamewarden and they took care of it. i know it is not a mountain lion but it was a wild animal in the middle of fort worth. who would have thought.
i am familar with the country of eagle mountain lake and believe it or not there is a lot of woods on that lake that is not bothered by man. expecially before they opened up the park off of boat club. i think it is possible. i have also seen pics of bobcats on this site that were huge. you need to get that sucker so you can get another write in TTH mag.

I would discount the story by the person who told you that GW said there was a black one with red collor. But its not out of the realm of one sliping threw there . Iknow there some that range not too far from there. If you have access to weatherford democrate paper archives you can find a article they printed several yrs ago on some in parker county.I have personaly seen three in my lifetime in parker county yrs apart on sighting and for those that say shoot well it just aint always that easy. You wont find lots of deer kills because they kill average of one a week over a large range. Mother natures way of not over killing a area.
