Not sure what they are today, but it was around $2000-$2750 for a more typical antlered replica and mount a few years ago. NT goes up more in cost. The first replica was the most then after that the next sets of replica antlers were much less. One guy in the DFW area and another IIRC up Michigan that did really good replica work.

ok, dumb question and not meant to be a smart-alec.

Why would you want a replica?

Just curious.

Tons of times I come across real once for sale that someone wants to get rid of.

In one of my buddy's cases, he was offered $60k for his buck mount and it's tempting to take it and have a replica done.

I would do that in a heartbeat. I am a pretty traditional guy, but 60 Gs is 60 Gs.

I was at a guys house and he showed me his trophy room. He was a collector of state record or high ranking WT bucks both typical and NT. He had the unmounted antlers off of a huge NT with matching double drops and tall 13" double split browtines. He said he had just got a replica made to give to the young man who killed the buck since he bought the antlers. I asked how much...he said "I just paid for his college education". The deer was in the upper 200" range and was killed in the early 90's.

Sign me up for the replicas in those cases. Could knock out some bucket list hunts.

Yep, easy decision there. Speaking of that, I've got a nice narrow rack with tons of character and a great story. I'll let him go for 10K if you call fast RM. smile

Know a guy who killed two of the Big 5 back a few years ago and ended getting his money back for them. Sold one to a big "hunting store" and one was given to a museum. Both were lifesize mounts.

My understanding is that alot of the mounts you see stores like cabelas, gander mt., shileds and such are reproduction, they may have the originals somewhere but the really big ones in the store for display are not real. here is a couple of places to look at replica antlers and the cost for just the antler.
