What I have seen is you will need the Vortex warranty! LOL I have used Leupold for 25 years and have never had a scope need their warranty. Unless I damaged it my self. The one time I did damage the scope myself they replaced it no questions asked even though I told them what happened. Just curious, what failures have you experienced with vortex (first hand experience), other than physical damage? I do not have any experience with Vortex just did a lot of research before getting optics for my last 2 rifle builds. If you read other forums regarding Vortex I am sure you will come to the same conclusion I did.

Yes mine if ffp. I can tell that the glass in the Swfa hd is a lot better than the viper. For animal hunting its a great scope for me my longest shot is 350. If I had the extra cash laying around I would upgrade mine to another swfa 5x20 manly because my other 3 rifles have swfa on it.
I have a 12x fixed power on my 6.5x55 I took it to Jason's 800 yard range and that scope ran out to 800 no issues.

Vortex or Swfa ss hd
Vortex 4x16 on my 300 win mag mrad Swfa hd 5x20x50 on my 338
Vortex out to 800 yards I stayed around 10 magnification. Never had a issue with either scopes and I beat the vortex up pretty good So because of poor quality glass you can only use half of your magnification? I buy optics because the glass is good. If anyone is worried about the mechanical aspect get a Nightforce.

Half is an exageration. My Viper PST is a 6-24 X. I lose clarity at 24X, but regain it at 20-22X.
