I am moving to the Houston Area. Katy to be exact. I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any places around the Houston Area to hunt? I don't mind traveling a bit away maybe 3 or 4 hours. I am relocating from Austin. Thanks!

East Texas is filled with hunting leases, some decent and some terrible. Are you looking for something small, something big?

I am looking for a spot and stalk type of hunt. As far as size go. I never really thought about if that mattered but I would want something big enough for me to walk around and have lots of cover.

In 4 hours from Katy you can be in Dallas, Junction, Brady, Falfurrias or anywhere in between. Might want to narrow down what it is you are wanting to hunt, and how. Once that is decided, might be able to give more advice.

I am looking to hunt any type of deer. In my budget of course. I am also open to hogs, rabbits, and anything edible. I don't like to kill and leave. I am not a varmint hunter. I want a spot and stalk hunt. Unless which I know it's not called catching! Unless there is a guarantee high fence area where I will be able to harvest my prey. I am really not trying to trek back towards the Austin area if I don't have to. As far as the National parks go. I am going to have to look into that. I had assumed that Houston would be the best area to hunt out of all three major areas (Austin, Houston, and Dallas). I don't mind traveling towards Beaumont. I always see deer out that way. I just don't know those areas well enough to know how or who I need to contact.

If you can possibly find anyone with land in Austin County near Bellville or Cat Springs and become buddies with them, the area is currently way over populated with deer. I know there are a ton of deer around Weimar as well. Also helps if you're a bowhunter as many of the counties surrounding Houston only allow doe harvest with a bow or MLD permits.
Not always the biggest bucks, but you'll sure get meat if you want it.

Around cleveland and cold spring you can find some leases close by and there are a bunch of deer but no monsters. If you want high fenced or guided hunts head toward san antonio.

Well you can stalk your legs off in the Sam Houston National Forest, but you are unlikely to spot anything except the occasional hog. If you are willing to pay to hunt, you can contact these people west of Madisonville: Corley Ranch
