I dont know a lot about this round. I do know that I dont own one and I like guns so Im gonna buy one. Ive got my eye on the Ruger American Ranch rifle in 300BO. I may get wild and add a suppressor.

Tell me more about the round...Is it a good deer/hog round? Varmint?
Any help appreciated.

Good round and plenty of knockdown if you shoot reasonable. I stay under 200 yards and never had anything take more than a step or two. It's killed many of hogs. And the price of 223 anymore it's about the same price to shoot. And can be found a lot easier now. I can walk into just about any Walmart and pick it up.

300blk is always sold out at the local Walmart.
I don't shoot long range with mine (under 150) and always shoot suppressed. I like the round.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I had one and didn't care for it. I felt like it was a bit puny for what it is made out to be. However, it is certainly capable of knocking down deer and hogs.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I have 3 rifles in 300 BO. Just Tuesday we were plinking steel at 400 and 500 yards with my 115 Berger ammo. Body shots were easy on full size silhouettes that far, so we started taking only head shots at 400 and 500. 3.5 mils to 400 and 5.4 mils to 500 yards from a 100 yard zero. When we missed, it was due to wind off the right edge, in some switching winds from the 4 o'clock to the 6 o'clock (.3 to .8 mil wind hold). This was with my Rem 700 AAC 16" with Shark can. When mounting my new Vortex 2-10 mil/mil scope, I was getting one small cluster of shots on a 3/4" shoot n see dot. I love shooting my 300 BO's. It is a very fun caliber with low recoil. I run the 115 Berger mainly in my bolt guns, and hunt with the 125 grain bullets on my AR with thermal scope. I have taken several deer with this round, several pigs, a few coyotes, and lots of small critters when deer/pig hunting was slow. Everything was DRT, except one pig that ran about 40 yards, and 1 deer that ran about 10 feet. Everything else dropped on the spot. IMO, it is a near perfect caliber for Texas hunting out to 150 or so yards. I have taken a step back and kept my hunting calibers very simple. I no longer want the big calibers for basic hunting at normal distances. Give me just enough power to be effective without over kill, and the 300 BO is it.

I love my 2 ARs in 300 Blackout, 16" and SBR with 10" barrel, both have cleanly taken hogs DRT with head shots.
