I have one, and with a little experimenting you can figure out how to use the BDC to your advantage for hunting. Each circle can be lined up three different ways, use the bottom of the circle to line up, use the center of the circle to line up, or use the top of the circle. Just shoot some targets at different distances and you can easily figure out how you need to hold over for the distance you are shooting. Nikon also has charts for hold over using the BDC. There are better recticles for target shooting, but the BDC is plenty good for normal hunting situations. Most hunters don't need to take shots over two hundred yards anyhow, and the BDC is plenty good for a two hundred yard hold over... Don't think the BDC or any recticle for that matter will make you or your rifle immediately capable of a 500 yard shot. That's the worst error the BDC causes with a lot of people...Oh and one more thing I forgot to mention, the hold overs change when you change the magnification level, so you have to keep the magnification in the same level you've learned the correct hold overs in or they will not work correctly...

That's what I've read so far. They are designed for max magnification. I'm almost debating selling it and getting something else. But at same time I want a higher end scope so I've got to figure it out somehow.

Exactly right Hermano W. The problem I have with them is lots of people get a false sense of security thinking they can automatically be a hitter 300, 400, and 500 yards. And lots of those guys never practice as you suggested. Also, the reticle does nothing to address wind. And that is the challenge for anyone shooting distance. Getting elevation correct is easy, getting the wind judged and allowed for appropriately is the art. I'm still an artist in training.
