Picked up a savage and while it has a nice stock on it, I don't particularly care for wood stocks. What's a good option and if possible I'd like to upgrade to detachable mag at the same time. What's the best budget set up compared to the best set up? It's a hunting rig not a bench rifle.

Cheap option would be to buy a savage take off stock wit a detachable mag. Shouldn't take much customization if any to get the detachable to function correctly.

I have one on a Savage. Very well made, high quality stock with an aluminum spine. If you do the money saver option, it'll be $250-ish and worth a ton more than that.

I would look at the stocks a midway they have quite a few composite stocks.
I like the Hogue over molded with rubber sine they don't slip when they get moist or wet.

I have an HS Precision m24 with the vertical grip on my Savage and really enjoy it. But I'm sure there are many comparable options.

As for the DBM, I've been telling everyone that would listen that CDI Precision is installing bottom metal for free if you so choose to go the AICS compatible mags. The inletting alone probably saved me $150.

The DOW Jones is looking strong, S&P 500 posting solid number too.

Oh those kinds of stocks, Stockade or Manners. Be prepared for the wait of a Manners stock though. I have waited 8 months for mine and they still don't know when it will be done...

If you want the cheap route, buy my short action Savage accustock. It's good for a hunting stock. I replaced it with a HS-Precison M-24.

Manners has some ready to ship stocks. That's what I chose then had them do some mods to it. I think it shipped in less than a month from the time I ordered. But manners is not a budget stock.

+1 on the manners, more $$$ than Mcmillan and a wait to go with it. I don't like waiting

My problem now is the fact it's got the internal mag. Not a fan. Would prefer detachable mag or even a hinged floor plate.

I never would have waited. I'm too impatient as it is.
