Varget is another great option.

44.5 gr Varget, 210M primer = 2950

46.0/Re-15 for a tad over 3000 fps shoots superbly out of two short-barreled rifles (18.5" Rem M7 and 20" Ruger). This is a max load, so work up carefully using your chronograph.

Has anyone had success with IMR4350 and 120gr 7-08?

Have made some great shooting loads with 140 gr Ballistic Tip bullets using IMR4350, never tried it with 120gr though. 140 gr BT in front of 46.5 grains of IMR4350 at 2.88 was my go to load for years, shot half inch groups with almost boring regularity. That load is now over max listed these days so all warnings apply.

For max loads expect to be hearing some powder crunching.

The various 4350s burn too slowly to get top velocities before you run out of room in the case. It's better to reserve your 4350 for heavier bullets like the 140 or 160 gr. I think you should stick with Re-15 or Varget; I've also had good performance from IMR4320.

If you can't find a good load with the 120 NBT (you will, however), try the Barnes 120 TTSX or even the Speer 130 gr BTSP, a bullet that I've used more in the '08 than even the 120s.

any idea what the minimum impact velocity is for this bullet?

I was thinking about loading some in my 708 for my 10 year old to use on deer at a much reduced velocity (recoil).

obviously, I cant slow it down so much that it doesnt expand.....

Shot some loads today. My featherweight likes the 120nbt better than any 140's I've put through it. I've probably tried 50 different 140gr load combinations and was lucky to get 1.25" groups at 100 yards. Today with the 120NBT over 44.6gr Varget I'm getting less than .400" groups at 100. The 120's also shot well with RL-15. I don't think the hogs will like these next weekend.

I normally shoot Nosler 140's and not 120's but with 140's best load is IMR 4064 42 grains and Varget at 41.1 grains. Both loads at less than 1/4 moa at 100 yards.

What is the the twist rate on your barrell?
My 7 x 57 has a 1/8.66 twist rate and it shoots 120 real tight 1/2 moa. 1\2 inch.
I have learned to check twist before I start loading.
The twist is why some guns shoot 175 gr or 120 gr.
Some models differ in twist by the same maker.

According to the Winchester website, the twist rate on M70FWTs in 7-08 is 1 in 9 1/2". that should handle pretty much any bullet weight available.
