What would you consider a trophy pintail? What's the longest sprig you've taken? Do you measure the total length of the feather?

I saved a few from this past season but ended up plucking all these. The far left had decent sprig but was a smaller bird and shot up a little more.

I like a long clean white line in to the brown on the head more than the pintails themselves.

^^^ I agree! I shot a sprig this year with Kent outdoors that measured I think 5 or 6 inches. It had an amazing white line to a black patch on the top of its head. It's in the freezer now, just need to send it to my fathers friend to mount it!

Ross shot this one on our trip to obregon. 11".

They are my favorite puddle duck. Nothing gets me more excited than a big flock of late season sprigs. We shoot our limits almost every hunt.

x2 for favorite puddle duck. He's not my longest, but certainly my most prized! haha I'm not certain about the total length but I can measure when FF/Birdman finishes up with him. He was nearly 11 years old though.

Brazos, you should start an outfit that specializes in sprig busting and quit that home building nonsense. I bet you could find a local DU chapter to get some free advertising from...show up early, drop some fliers around, eat your meal, drink their booze and then bounce on out

free advertising to a very specific market is priceless up

Not bad for a 9 yo's first sprig. Kendall was ear to ear smiles

Todd ( brazosboyt ) mounted it for her

I grew up hunting during the points era. And rest assured on many a mornings we'd have 40 bulls laid across the blind top. So I've seen my share of pins on the strap. Over the 36 years I've gone afield this was one of the biggest birds with one of the longest sprigs I've seen.

A guy I was guiding 7 years ago shot the biggest Pintail I have ever seen, it dwarfed the others shot that day, tail was 11.5", it now resides on a wall in Louisiana.
