Need some input. Ive got a Vortex Viper PST 6x24FFP EBR1 MRAD. Its the only scope ive owned in the 1000$ range. Its not a bad scope and works well with what I use it for, which is predator hunting. With a lightforce spotlight it's not uncommon to kill a coyote at 250 to 300 yards at night. With most kills being under 100 yards. I just added a heavy barrel 243 to my toy box and need another scope. How does the nightforce shv 5x20 compare to a vortex viper pst? The one positive I see on the shv is the capped turrets. Hunting in the high rack at night climbing in and out of the truck with the rifle sometimes my vortex turrets will inadvertently get moved.

For a dedicated coyote rig, I don't think I would want exposed turrets for the reason you said. Especially if your shots are mostly under 300 yards. I'd rather zero at 200 and hold over for 300 I think.

I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

The 6x24FFP is an overkill on my 223. Max distance I'll shoot at a coyote is 400 yards. Past that it just loses to much energy. Its nice to zoom in on them and id rather have to much of a scope than not enough. I agree the FFP is nice but for no farther than I shoot its not necessary. Mainly looking for input on an equivalent scope to put on a 243 that'll reach out a little farther during day hunting. FiremanJG ive noticed you're the long range and scope go to on here. I want to try something other than a vortex, has to be illuminated. Besides the nightforce shv do u have any suggestions?
