I am fortunate enough I get to travel all over the state. I am looking for a list of cool places to check out along the way. Everyone has a favorite store they like to visit. Im talking about the small mom and pops or smaller retailers. Everyone know the big BP's and Cabelas. It may be in your home town or in the town closest to your lease. What is one of your favorites and what ton is it in?

Can't beat Cabelas!!!!

When I need something, Atwoods and Academy are where I go shopping most of the time, but I wouldn't think they are much for looking at. Kind of like a walmart for the outdoors

building a new Bass Pro about 2 minutes from my office in Georgetown - not good because I will most likely be there most of the work day

BPS, because it is only 4 miles away. I go there to look quite often but buy most of my stuff at Academy if I can.

Academy, the others failed to build any stores in our area, so they don't get any of my money.

Quality small shops are getting very hard to find nowadays.

There are some good ones to look at, but a lot of times they are for the outdoor sportsman with more money than sense, i.e. super high-end stuff. Used to be a place called Sportsman's Bailiwick in San Antonio on Broadway. Might still be around. My son thought they might have moved down to the Pearl.

I like McBride's in Austin; bought a shotgun there. Lots of accessories.

If you could have a BassPro decor with Cabela's products and a staff that actually cared about helping people, then you'd have something.

I've had good luck with military surplus stores. A lot of the gear is military grade and doesn't have a big fancy name that you pay for.

I travel all over the state as well with my job. The store I do the most business with is 2K Pawn in Decatur. They'll give you a fair deal on trade and have a great selection of merchandise, new and used.

I'm off of Cabellas. I went in there (Fort Worth store)day before yesterday to buy a VX3 scope and stood around looking at the merchandice and a guy was changing tags on the guns with his back to me. I asked him 3 times if I could look at a scope, louder each time. He never acknowledged my question. I finally hollered, " Are you a deaf Son of a Bitch." When he turned around he said he didn't have the keys to the case. A man next to me said he had also asked this kid for help several times. I left and bought the scope online and saved myself some money. I can't imagine what I'd do if one of the kids that work for me treated a customer this way. When I say kid I'm talkin about a 25 year old man.
