Did anyone use a command other than "whoa" when training their dog? I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But I am thinking about using something else with my pup since it sounds so similar to "no".

I hunted with a guy in Louisiana who would hup his dogs.

Halt or down. The dog drops down to the ground with its head on the ground.
You can use the word abracadabra if you want.
I'll take a Black Female every time.

I've heard Hup, and Whoop used in place of Whoa. The main thing is to keep whatever word you choose the same.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

I've heard a lot of "words" used before and after whoa... but whoa was always in there somewhere.

I've heard a lot of "words" used before and after whoa... but whoa was always in there somewhere. Repeat some of those words and spend two weeks in ban camp.

A pup learns that NO means STOP doing whatever it is the pup is doing. Chewing barking etc. Yes you could use another word but they already think the strong O sound means STOP. Why change it? Just don't name your dog Joe Or Bo or Mo.
