This is a Southwest style bowie with a 11 inch blade that I just completed and will hand deliver to the client. The wood is another piece of the Horse Chestnut. The Damascus is a modified version of my Trail of Tears pattern. The engraving I did with scroll work and leaves in both stainless and gold. It is sharp enough to cut government red tape, well, almost. Hope you like it.

Beautiful. Is there a story behind Horse Chestnut? How do you inlay the gold? cheers

Pitchfork, George Washington planted 13 of these trees between his sisters house and his mothers house. One was planted for each colony. This is part of the last tree and it was planted for the Georgia colony. It had to be cut down in the year 2000.
I did the Trail of Tears with the Washington wood cause I am sure ole George is shedding a few tears over how this country has changed.

I remove the base metal, dovetail the sides of the shape, then pull up burrs from all four directions so that when I hammer the gold in it gets under the lip of each bur plus the dovetailed sides. The only way to get it out now is to chisel it out a bit at a time. It will not come out in one piece even with the chisel.
That's one thing you should ask when buying engraving that is inlay, Did they dovetail? Not everyone does. without dovetails you can hit it on the side and it pop out or just snag. I have seen others were it did come out. Not good. I never know what a person will do to my knife so I build it as strong as possible.
Engraving such as this one will take 25-30 hours per inch. I make my own chisels etc.

Another beautiful knife! I bet with that wood, plus the hours you have invested, make this a pretty pricey piece. And I'm sure it's worth every penny! Outstanding work, sir.

Wow. What a tribute to one of our fore fathers and the tree. Literally. The custom hand work is amazing, the historical factor is intriguing and the over all craftsmanship is nothing short of exquisite. Well done sir.
