Went up the Vic high country for a five day hunt with my brother, a mate and our gundogs.
My GSP Ellie worked out of her skin over the course of the hunt indicating and pointing several deer. I think now at almost 18 months she's coming out of her arrogant and puppy stage. They say at 3 years you have a good dog for deer so I'm half way there!

Ended up seeing around 90-100 deer for the time we were all there, mostly fallow but a few sambar. I took one doe that Ellie pointed with my muzzleloader from about 50m, that dropped on the spot. Also missed a nice fallow buck with the muzzleloader but that's hunting I spose!

I prefer meat in it's original packaging.

Thanks all, I certainly do appreciate it Tux Man. The best quality fallow we have are 2 1/2 hours from home but we travel 9 hours each way every year to hunt this property just for the beautiful country and good deer numbers.

I've got a mate from Montana that wants to come down for a hunt someday and that's where I'll take him. In the peak of the rut you could all but promise a shot at a buck in a week, we went a little early this year but our hands where tied. We took a local young bloke to get his first buck and that's when he had already booked leave for.

Awesome seeing how versatile GSPs can be. Looks like an interesting way of putting some tasty fallow venison on the table.

Where you from? Your typing has an accent to it. scared

I had never heard of using pointers for deer hunting. Interesting. That is a good looking GSP.

G'Day Mate!!! (Sorry, that's all I got out of watching Crocodile Dundee)

Haha when you see movies they quite often exaggerate things a bit but the old "G'day" is how we say hi in the country. Most city Australians aren't worth a pinch of salt though!

I'm from South East Australia in Victoria where we use gundogs and deerdogs a lot in hunting. It's fairly restricted on the breeds that we use but basically, because aussies mostly bush stalk (still hunting) and we don't use stands having a trained dog is a great asset. We work them with the wind and train them to indicate or point the deer when they see or smell a deer.

Beautiful GSP! Lucky you can use your GSP for pointing deer, here in Texas it's illegal.

Very cool. Interesting to hear/see how different parts of the world hunt. Best of luck to you and hope your GSP hunts many years for you.
