went to the ranch on friday to do some work on the room addition im doing to the cabin and do a little turkey hog hunting, went to leave on sunday and my 2013 f150 wont start, cranks and cranks no start. check fuses and look at thing under the hood and see a rat had torn up some foam under the hood. get it towed to the dealer, bastage hit 3 different harnasses 767.00 bucks later i finally got my truck back today.
intake had to be removed just to get to one harnass and gas tank had to be dropped to get to other.

Yessir; been there done that . . .
We now prop our hoods open a few inches with a piece of firewood whenever at the ranch, and start vehicle daily in the morning to 'be sure' and let them know 'it's no a good place to nest . . '.
We also always set a few snap-traps out with some corn, near the vehicles.

I got that beat.....

#1 I had my GT3 towed to Boardwalk Porsche after it wouldn't start. I got a vmail from my service advisor a few days later telling me a rat had chewed my wiring in several places and that they had the nest in a ziplock bag. The bill was $4300 installed for a new custom built wiring harness shipped from Stuttgart Germany.

#2 The red Henessey Viper sitting in my garage was recently attacked by a hungry rodent. I went out to the garage, fired it up, and noticed it was idling rough. After shutting it down and inspecting the engine, I found the anti-knock sensor wires and 3 coil pack wires chewed through and the making of a nest on top of the block. Needless to say, if that rat was under the hood when I pushed the start button on that car, I'm certain he shat his pants when it fired up.

#3 My GT40 which hadn't been driven in a couple months had rat nests front AND back. In addition to a paper wasp nest under the front seat, which I didn't discover until I sat in the seat.

Just One Bite. Got blood thinner in it and kills the hayl out some rats. Gotta be careful though, that stuff kills downstream too. I ain't had a fox, coyote, coon or nothing in years. They find the dead or dying rats and eat em, then they croak too.

I leave all our ranch vehicles hoods up. Yes, it looks like Sanford and Son. Those dirty pieces of rodent doo-doo can do a boatload of damage. Tomcat poison seems to work OK. I put down the big chunks of green bars and the bars are gone the next day. I don't think you can wipe them out but at least you can try to control them.

Cats are awesome but never last very long at our place, yotes & owls get most of them.

Chicken Waterer and Liquid Tom Cat rat/mice bait. Put it out all around the house, garage, barns etc where pets or animals you do not want to drink can't get to it. Keep the waterers refilled every time you are down there and it will rid you of a rat/mouse problem.
On a ranch my cousin manages in Live Oak County has had issues with rats chewing wires to sensors on several JD tractors on the ranches. They are chewing the wires off at the sensor or plug so you can not re-wire them. Some of those sensors are expensive to put in. Been quite a few they have chewed up.

Had a $700 tractor repair one time. I take 2 or three Bounce sheets, fold them up like a bow tie and wrap a piece of baling wire around them and attach it under the hood. They hate the smell. Worked for 3+ years now.

Antifreeze in a bowl under your trailer or lease vehicle has worked for me. A little drink and they are done.

Cost me 3200 earlier this year in a car I had had for only about 60 days. Insurance covered it though.

we use the Tom Cat too and it is bad a--- stuff. Also cats have been the best solution. Last year I was getting oil changed on my F150 and guy calls me out to garage area to show me the nest built under the lid and inside my air filter. Looked like a bird nest but was from a rat

You can't fix stupid

Anyone got any suggestions on killing rats when you have a dog that will 100% eat them if he finds them?

I've got the spring loaded traps out, but I think the rats are outpacing me. Have a detached garage and I can hear them in the walls. Thought I had them killed when I got 3 last week, but they're definitely still in there.
