I've been looking for a hog light to make or buy for a while but didn't want to break the bank doing it. So after lots of research this is my 1st go at it. What do you think? Comments, questions, input? This first version is just has a toggle switch unit. I will either adapt this one to a daylight/dusk or remote control version later. More pics to come.

It's been running since midnight last night continuous. I'm trying to test the battery life. It's still running strong this
Morning at 11:00 am. I will do an outside test again tonight to compare performance to last night.

The light has been running 36 hours straight and there is no change to the brightness. I have a solar panel for it but haven't installed it. I wonder how long this light will go on a single charge?

Looks good. Let us know if you add a daylight/dusk sensor and how it works.

cheers Every one is on a budget. Got cheap walmart solar lights, cheap scope, cheap lazer,, cheap bullets. Works great, camnt complain. Haven't had no problems with hog's terring up de place . Was worried whin they switched it ta 4 deer county. Got some good pic's of deer early part of deer season. As pappy once said: would rather be hunting than working, but a wise person realizes by working can aford ta hunt. Seeing fewer hog's & deer hunting should be good for next year.. Still got all my tags, from last several years. rofl the lowfer, huntsolo Edit: eeks333 said theirs problem with security for THF site , dang Gov. spying on me again. flag

cool.
What battery? you checkin to make sure you don't 'over-drain' it? (that's what kills SLA's).
A cheap ebay solar-controller ($10) should help keep battery from over-charging / over-draining.

tip: The solar-panel can act as the 'photo-cell' (turn led off during daylight) using transistor or better yet a MOSFET.

Yep- will die quick - lowest you want to go is about 10.5 (10.2 = charge is 100% depleted per specs @ 1.7v/cell) - battery will only survive maximum 200 cycles @ 10.2 and many less taken all the way down to 10v; < than 1 year battery life, and will die immediately if freezing temps when battery is 100% + discharged.
typical $9 ebay solar controller will cut load off when battery dips to 10.8v thereby preventing over-discharge; battery will last up to 1200+ cycles; 3+ years or more. 10.8v lowest discharge will also help battery survive freezing temps.
