I guess I grew-up in the beat and drag ages. I'm afraid a man would be put in prison today for what my elders would do while training a young dog. So with that in mind a simple search for an e-collar sure is intimidating. Prices and functionality variations have me really uncertain as to which unit will work best. I would appreciate some real life recommendations. Thanks

What type of dog? The collars vary depending upon the dog use.

Check out the Garmins, they bought out Tri-Tronics and some of the older models are not available anymore. "I have an older model and have to buy used items for it" but proceed with caution. You can ruin a dog if you are not familiar with E-Collars trust me when I say that. If I had a dollar for every mistake I made with a E-Collar I wouldn't have to work. Anyhow, it's common sense and start at the lowest to see what works. I'm sure it will all work out. Good Luck.

I have a Garmin. I use it on the highest setting at times. I don't think the highest setting is as hot on the new ones as they once were.

Sportdog 1825. You won't find anything hotter on the market and you can fine tune the stimulation levels. Rugged & reliable. If you decide to get one let me know, I can get them cheaper than anyone around.

I use Tritronics and have had no problems. Plenty of range and power when you need it.
Adios,
