After battling with raccoon false-triggering my trap door, I was able to finally catch my first hog, a loner boar.

Received tons of advises, suggestions, and encouragements from THF members. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.

Not able to tell when and how long the hog was trapped as the memory cards were gone. I have been telling myself to be graceful as the "guest(s)" did leave me with my cameras.

Congrats on the hog. Maybe you need a trap for the "guests".

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

2x4's with 16 common nails driven through spaced 2" apart buried in the ground in front of the camera (nails sticking up) will stop the thieves , just remember where YOU placed it.

Thanks guys.

I will cut some slack for the "guest(s)" this time. After all they are also our fellow hunters.

PaulZ2,

I am still a newbie, so please take what said with a grain of salt. To build the trap and the door, I mainly followed these 2 youtube links -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMBVPX5TlEI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJSJ6yoIABA

I have the trap up since Jan 2015 and it took me 2.5 months to successfully trap my first hog. Most of time and effort were spent on modifying the trigger setting to make it "raccoon proof".

During this process I have received lots of good suggestions from THF members. If you also have trouble with raccoon triggering the door, you may want to reference my previous post for details. Again lots of good ideas there. I will take a picture of my final trigger setting if needed.

Hope it helps.

Sorry for the late reply, PaulZ2.

For bait, I scatter sour corn both inside and outside the trap. As a backup, there is also a feeder inside the trap throwing regular corn daily.

Under my “root sticks” trap trigger, I buried "sour corn".
