Has anyone played with these yet? I was wanting to play with 4451, but I can't find any right now. It's a little more expensive than your normal IMR and Hodgdon powders. I was thinking about producing a line of 308 ammo with the 4166 with 178 A-max if it can meter.

4166 is similar in burn speed to R15 and Varget.

4451 is similar in burn speed to 4350.

7977 is similar in burn speed to H1000, R25.

Why can't they use names? I can never remember the 4 digit codes

I'm a numbers guy, so I remember powder numbers very well. I know what you mean, though.

I am also a numbers guy and can remember numbers better than names. Perhaps that is the Engineer in Me.

Read somewhere the new IMR powders have the same tech as CFE223 for copper fouling reduction.
When I see some would like to try the slowest in the 22-243 and 6.5-284

I have used the IMR 7977 in the 22 Creedmoor and the 6mm Creedmoor.
Got good performance in the 22 CM with 75gr Amax very accurate and speed was good.
In the 6mm CM the accuracy and consistency was not as impressive with the 105 Berger but with the 105 AMax it did very well.
Meters well and supposedly has the copper fouling remover but cannot comment if that works or not.
Like the CFE223 it turns your patches very black for a couple of patches but then cleans easily from that point.

Dangit Chad! I still didn't send you my notes for the few .308 Win ogive measurements after our phone conversation. Why you not catch me on a rain day when I'm at the loading bench? There's been plenty lately. sick

4166 : Cabelas in Allen had 3 1 lb bottles earlier this evening. A little pricey at 31.99 each.

4166 - same load data in 6.5x47 as varget load shot the exact same velocity, accuracy, etc... grain for grain.

Interesting. Does the powder LOOK like Varget? Is it imported from Austraila? You know where I'm going...

4166 is an extruded powder, grey in color, kind of shiny. It says it's mfg in Canada. It doesn't look like Varget at all.

Look what I found at Cabelas
Probably try it in the 6.5 Creemoor first

^^^ It will work fine, but it you will lose about 50-100 fps from the slower burning powders, like 4350. It's pretty close to Varget data.

Well, if it's made in Canada it's NOT just relabeled Varget. Varget is an ADI powder and is the same as AR2208. Looks like the choices in the medium burn rate category just keep getting better and better. If I wasn't so well set with Re15 for my .35 Whelen I would give the new IMR powder a try.
