Yep, another newbie here looking for some direction. It looks like there is a 99% probable chance that I will be moving to Texas in the next 3-4 months. We are looking to find a home somewhere between Lake Jackson and Rosharon. I was wondering how the hunting is in the area of Brazoria County. Deer and turkey are my main concerns, but I do enjoy going after some small game and doves on occasions. I have lived in NC all my life and have hunted since I was about 10 or 12. That was around 33 years ago... Geeez! Didn't realize I had been hunting for that long... Man time flys.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Don't forget to bring your Saltwater fishing pole...and look forward to seein' more waterfowl than you've ever seen before ...in addition to what you've been accustomed to hunting. OBTW stop by the local zoo and learn to ID all the foriegn antelope you can find ...'cause we got those too....that can be hunted year 'round.

Scratch "GTT" ( like Davy Crockett did and means Gone To Texas) on the front door and come on....

Been here in NC all my life, but I have worked in Texas for several weeks as a civilian, and Ft. Hood during Desert Storm as a helicopter mechanic in the NC National Guard. I can't wait to move! I have been needing a change like this for a long time!

welcome Most of the hunting in Texas is done on leases on private land. Texas is 97% or more private land. There are some draw hunts on Texas Parks and Wildlife WMA across the state and those draws start in July/August. There is some public land to hunt with most of it in East Texas. I would go the the TPWD website and look at the regs and various season dates for that county/surrounding counties. Also study up on Antler Restrictions(AR's).

welcome to the great state of Texas.

stxranchman covered it for you as far as pubic resources and most of the huntable land here is private and leased for hunting like I know ya'll do in your state as well

If I were you I'd look at the hill country and south Texas if you want really new and different terrain compared to what you used to.

Good luck. up

I can't wait to get some more Zigenbock. Texas is the only place you can find it. Whataburger is okay. I do like their breakfast biscuits!

Good advice. The public hunting section of this forum has some very informative stickies.

I'm jealous. I had to leave Texas to find a decent job.
