We're hitting Louie Mueller's in Taylor today on the way to an Austin wedding. It's my favorite. The place is so ancient and infused with smoke that even the wood walls smell like brisket. Beef rib please!

I have to disagree with your sir. I am a firm believer that good barbecue and good steaks don't need any sauce. Bad barbecue and bad steaks need sauce. I am always suspect of places that slather their meat in sauce. I usually ask for my sauce on the side, just in case I need it. Just my He's an Oklahoma State fan and he likes beans in his chili, he is not to be trusted. I sensed something was funny about him. Just couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks for clearing it up for me. Now, gita rope!

Ate at Meat U Anywhere BBQ in Grapevine at the recommendation of someone that posted earlier. The brisket was excellent. Probably the best I've had in the metroplex. I got the moist cut and there was no inedible fat. I've had some waste at Lockhart Smokehouse and Pecan Lodge. Price is comparable to both of those ($19/lb). I'll go out of my way to get there again.

I ate at Cattleack BBQ in Addison yesterday. They are only open Thursday and Friday. It's what BBQ restaurants are now; by the pound, a few sides and pricey. Brisket was good ($18/lb.). Almost, but not quite as good as Pecan Lodge or Meat U Anywhere. Ribs were OK. There was a line early and only open for lunch. Worth going if you're in the area and can get there early to avoid the wait.

Buddy's BBQ in Hunt is pretty darn good! Was at a ranch seminar yesterday and they catered it. I was happily surprised!

My take on Meat U Anywhere BBQ in Grapevine
I bought a 1lb. of marbled brisket. It had Excellent bark. It was very moist and cut with a fork. I found it lacking a little smoke flavor. It was good, but on this trip the brisket didn't compare with Lockharts or Hutchins. I still found myself wanting to use BBQ sauce with their brisket.
Jap Mac n cheese was Excellent! A must have
Cream Corn was also very good
Customer Service was good
I didn't care for the paper bowl they give you japs, onions, and pickles in. That's nit picky
Overall it was good to above average. I want to go back again but I won't be making a special trip like I did today.
BBQ sauce was like a wannabe Rudy's sauce it was just meh.

Met some buddies in Austin last week with the idea of eating some barbecue and hanging out. We went to two of my favorites, Freedmen's and Franklin Barbecue, but also tried out Micklethwait Craft Meats for the first time. We started out by hitting Freedmen's Bar, which I think is one of the most underrated barbecue joints in town. Ordered the Holy Trinity plate and the brisket, ribs, and sausage were all on point. Also tried out the Holy Mary, which was a Bloody Mary garnished with a rib, a slice of brisket, and sausage. In all honesty, this was a meal in itself. The next morning, we took a cooler full of beer and water so we could brave the line at Franklin Barbecue. We got there at 8 a.m. thinking we would beat the majority of the crowd, but we were wrong. The time really flew by and we had a great time catching up. The man himself, Aaron Franklin, was even cutting the meat on this day. The last two times we went, he has just been greeting patrons and working around the pits. I had the brisket, turkey, and pulled pork. The brisket was as great as ever and the turkey was amazing too. I tried the pulled pork for the first time and thought it was good, but not the best I have ever had. That being said, one bite of the moist brisket makes your understand why Aaron Franklin became the first barbecue pit master to ever win a James Beard Award for a region.

I usually mix live oak and pecan for beef ... mainly pecan on pork & chicken.
