Hey custom knife builders here is a new project I am looking to have built.
I would like to have a dagger built that would have a thin 8 inch blade with a false top edge. I would like silver bolsters and an ebony handle. I would also like an ebony sheath with silver tips. This would be like a Euro Coup de Gras knife. If you have an interest in building something like this shoot me a pm.

Here's a picture Because it might have to penetrate some heavy material the blade would have a diamond cross section.

Looks like a version of a Arkansas Toothpick. Google Arkansas Toothpick images some of them come really close.

Here's a picture Because it might have to penetrate some heavy material the blade would have a diamond cross section. Basically this with a little shorter blade and an ebony handle with Silver accents but, this is pretty close.

I bet David Crawford or Jason Fry could handle that job.

That's right at the leading edge of my capabilities. I've got a similar project in the works, but with mother of pearl and stainless fittings on a stiletto style blade, probably going to be 11 or 12 overall. My brother Travis is making one similar, sort of a sibling rivalry build-off. I'm not really taking orders right now, with two major shows coming in the next 6 months. If you'd like to see the ones we're doing, join our mailing lists. I've just done one dagger so far, as practice for the project I mentioned. Never having ground a dagger, and not wanting to lose the contest to my little brother, I figured a practice dagger was a good idea. This knife is D2 steel at RC 60, with a flat ground dagger grind and a 400 grit hand finish and a full tapered tang. The handle material is African Blackwood, with a few flutes for decoration. The final classy touch is my first ever use of inlay material. The inlays on this knife are freshwater mother of pearl, from shells I processed myself, from the Concho River near San Angelo, TX. OAL is 7 inches with a 3 inch blade. This knife is symmetrical in all relevant directions, to the best of my ability. The sheath is black, basket weave tooled, with a clip for boot or inside the pocket carry. Mark side, as yet unmarked. Back side. Tapered tang Cell phone pic of the mark side, showing the raw shell You might ask around on bladeforums.... that's really a mastersmith type dagger.

Nathan after looking around I've come to the conclusion that you need a sword maker not a knife maker. One of the best is Angel Sword in Driftwood TX. Use his Facebook to see what's going on because he's apparently changing his website.

Be careful on this Nathan...while many improvements have been made on firearms...it is still against the law to carry a bowie knife in Texas unless you're going to or from hunting or camping. I don't know what your end use for this blade is but you might research the law to see if there are any caveots like they must have at Renaissance days or Medieval Times
Texas Penal Code Sec. 46.01
(6) "Illegal knife" means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;
(D) bowie knife;
(E) sword; or
(F) spear.

I have quite a few butcher knives with blades over 5.5 inches. Heck, one is 13.5 inches. And, I have put custom handles on a lot of knives with longer blades than 5.5 inches.
I've transported them and carried them to the owners.
I think the word here is "carry" and could always be subject to interpretation.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

I think the word here is "carry" and could always be subject to interpretation. It clearly states that as long as you in your house you're ok. You're right... carry is the key word and I suspect that if you are delivering to the your owners you'd be ok also..however it is all up to the leo. If he buys your story or he is a friend you don't have to sit in the local jail awaiting an arraignment.

The law needs to be changed. As it stands, a chef, could be arrested for transporting his knives for professional sharpening. I use a professional service that caters to chefs, most of their knives, have blades in excess of 5.5 inches. I bet, most of the private chefs, hired for special meals are in danger, because most of them bring their personal knives with them to assignments.

A friend of mine is a personal chef & yes he takes his own knives & some of them are as big as a short sword. hell he even carries a Saber for " Sabrage " which is a technique for opening a Champagne bottle with a saber . here is a short video of him doing that: http://www.4shared.com/video/TWo3Bz4g/pete_swing-720.html
