1:7 or 1:9. I'm not looking to use the gun for competitive shooting. I know the 1:7 is mil-spec, but that's because the military uses the heavier M855 and the other armor piercing rounds. Will 1:7 over stabilize 55 gr bullets and hurt accuracy? I'm looking at the PSA uppers, but they all seem to be 1:7.

I'd go 1:8". The 8" twist will stabilize the heavy bullets, as well as shoot the lighter one's well. Plus, there is a big difference in the accuracy on certain rounds when you go to the 1:9". The 8" has a more universal twist. The 9" can be finicky on what loads it likes.

"Over stabilize" a bullet? Is that a real thing?

Kinda like over saturated ground...

Thanks! Any recommendations on a good complete upper with 1:8 twist?

16+ would prefer a 16 with a mid-length system.

I have the 1:9 PSA mid length upper with the stainless barrel. It puts 5 shots you can cover with a quarter at 50yds shooting Wolf 55gr FMJ.

1:8 will give you more wiggle room with different bullet weights though.

I bought a thin profile, stainless, 16" barrel with mid-length gas and 1:7 twist from PSA a while back and shot this using cheap Academy .223 55gr ammo at 50 yards with a 2 MOA dot.

here is the upper on the rifle, I got it for $350 on Black Friday sale. Awesome deal.

I'm using a Rainier Select series medium contour barrel on one of my AR's and can get <.5 moa with a several different hand loads. See if you can find an upper with one. I know Rainer sells them on their website. White Oak Armament makes a good barrel too.

Rock river predator pursuit upper has a 1:8 twist. Mine shoots .5 moa with my 55gr handloads. Plan to load up some other grain bullets soon but just haven't had time.

Got mine from joeboboutfitters.com
