Has anyone used Berger VLD in 308 win on hogs?. Will they break up or will they disintergrate? I know they are very accurate.

Depends on what weight of bullet you use. The 155 hunting VLD has show massive amounts of fragmentation on deer from a 308 bolt gun. If you increase the weight and slow things down some, they will penetrate deeper and still get good fragmentation. I'll tell you this much. The nastiest wound channels I have ever seen have come from Berger VLD's pushed fast. I shot 2 does in about 2-3 seconds with my 260 Rem and 140 VLD. One was in the shoulder broad side, and I recovered some jacket material in the rear hams. Both had massive exit wounds, like grapefruit or cantaloupe size. Just don't go too light and you'll be good. Keep it 165 to 175 and you'll be good.

Thanks Chad. I was planning on using these on hogs. I aim for the head or neck. Sounds like the 155's would be devastating to a hog on a head or neck shot. I have been using Barnes TTSX 150's on them and have killed two with one shot if they are lined up. I don't think that would be an option for the Berger VLD's.

I purchased some 190s and will be giving a test run on pigs in a few weeks. I'll let you know how they do.

The 155 VLD's do not exit on a deer. So, on a tough pig, you will get minimal penetration. I'd go to the 165 at the lightest, and would prefer the heavier 175 grain stuff. If you wanted a tougher bullet, get the target bullet since it has a thicker jacket.

I may end up using the 155's on Coyotes.. I'll look into the 165's and up. All I see on-line right now are the 168's and 185's and up at cabelas. May need to look at other sites later tonight.
