Hey all. Got an older whitetail II on craigslist. I went to an archery shop and had it fitted and adjusted to me. Works great and have been shooting it for a few months now. Going to be my first down season woot!!

But the bow I have has cat whiskers.. I have read that every graham you add to you string takes off about a foot per second. Do they really silence the bow that much or do they effect the performance and are not worth it?

I know there is a lot of controversy over arrow speed, but I don't think the whiskers are really going to hurt anything. I know a string creaking while drawing back will get you busted by a doe almost every time. Even with the whiskers on with proper shot placement you shouldn't have a problem with arrow penetration.

I agree, If you're bow is too loud and you get busted almost every time, it doesn't really matter how fast your bow is. Sacrificing a few fps for improved silence shouldn't hurt your penetration much and would likely be a net positive.

Outstanding old bow. My first five bow killed deer fell to one of those. Accurate and forgiving. Good luck with the hunting with her.

You should always use string silencers on a bow. It actually increases the life of your limbs. They reduce shock throughout the entire bow. Trust me Ive had two explode in my face. You don't want that. Pretty scarey and dangerous. A loud bow is really going to make a deer come unwound when it goes off. You need all the quietness you can get. It does increase fps if you take them off, but it aint practical. Matter of fact if you don't have limb savers buy them. They will turn a dump truck into a Cadillac. up

I will go with a quite bow over noise any day and get more penetration from heavy arrows than light weight faster arrows, and the added arrow weight quietens the bow even more.

String silencers will help with overall noise and are worth it.

Awesome advice everyone. Ironically the top one fell off at the range yesterday so to even it out I took the bottom one off and you can really hear a difference when firing the bow. I will be ordering another set and putting them back on!

Thanks all!

Very true, put Beaver balls on recurves and a few compounds. Made more of a difference than any other string silencers I have tried. Limb Savers makes many options and a good string stop does wonders as well. Cable dampeners help also as well as limb dampeners.

So the bowJax UltraJax II Come in a 4 pack. Do I really need to put 2 on each side or should I just put 1 on each side and keep 2 as spares?

Thanks yall!

Man its been a while since Ive been around all the new options for archery. I do know you can go over board on anything. Ive seen bows that had so much extra rubber silencers on them that they felt more like a boat anchor than a bow. 2 string silencers and 2 limb savers is fine. I don't know what the ultra jax 2 looks like.
