wow that's early

Those coastal deer rut very early. So it is not unusual at all to see fawns this early in the year.

Very nice! Last year ours were dropping end of march to end of August... We had several extremely late, good to see early drops.

In VA they will start showing up at the end of May

Earliest I ever saw a fawn in northern Kendall County was April 5th. I would also see fawns on that same ranch every year the last week of April every year though. Rut was always in full tilt in mid October in that area. There was an area of 3 counties were they met that had the same early rut times. I was early by about a month compared to the rest of those counties.

Sept is common in that area of the OP. You can get into August in some instances for rut with the Avery Island whitetails along the coast.

I'm 260 miles north of where these pics were taken. Our fawns typically start dropping in late April and May and some as late as mid June.

TPWD did a fetus study back in the '90s and mapped out rut data all over the state from the results. I still have that map and it is probably the most accurate data source available on the subject. I'm sure you are familiar with it.

Yes I have seen it and it was very helpful to see the rut start dates by areas. It was very accurate for most of the places I have hunted also. Goes to show that all that data the TPWD collects is not wasted at times. They also did a study up in Shackleford County area on using browtine length to determine age. It was pretty accurate for that area of the study. I have looked for the brochure I had on that study but can not find it anymore.

That's at least six weeks ahead of most of Texas.

I have seen that one, but the one I referenced has a map of Texas with rut dates overlaid for every area in the state based on extensive fetus samplings across the state. I have the map but can't find a link to it.

Never doubt that area or coastal deer south of Matagorda for having early fawns

The biggest part of the rut in brazoria co is always the first 2 weeks in sept. with the normal bleed over before and after.

It always amazed me that conventional wisdom from biologists was that the rut was triggered by hours of sunlight.

Considering the fact that rut times in zavala co (along the same latitude as brazoria co) are 3 months later, it was easy to conclude that accepting conventional wisdom from biologists is not wise.

We saw the same map/report. It was from the early 90's IIRC or a pretty good while ago. I do not think I have ever seen it online though.
